Michael, Ashton, and Calum left on their scheduled flights, to which Luke paid for. I never did ask him how he paid for the tickets. I knew he used one of his dad's cards, but I wasn't sure how he would get away with it. I mean, there would be a bill showing the plane ticket costs, but I knew Luke would get out of it somehow. I wanted to go with the boys to the airport both days, but the day that Michael went back, my mom wouldn't let me leave the house. And then, the next day when Ashton and Calum went home, I had to go to a dinner with my parents, something dealing with my dad's firm. So, I was disappointed that I didn't get to say a proper good-bye.

I decided to visit Luke the day after the boys left, since he told me to come over, which was Saturday. Luke told me to come by, though I didn't know why. I told my mom that I was going to the library again, and she seemed suspicious. I kept using the same lie because I really couldn't think of a better one. But my mom finally agreed, then insisted on driving me. So, she dropped me off at the library and I finally found my way to Luke's house. I could have just called him, but I really didn't want him going through any trouble.

I trekked up the walk to his house, and knocked on the door, patiently waiting for Luke to answer, but he didn't. A blonde haired woman answered, staring me up and down as I stood there frozen. I assumed she was Luke's mom, as I could see the resemblance. But I was confused because Luke said his parents wouldn't be home until Sunday, and it was only Saturday.

"Who are you?" She asked, her tone wasn't harsh, but it wasn't very polite either.

"Uh, I'm Caroline," I smiled at her, to which she didn't return.

"What are you doing here?"

"I came by to see Luke," I bit my lip, feeling a little nervous, as well as awkward. It was obvious that she wasn't very nice, and to be honest she was pretty intimidating. She waved her hand for me to come in and I followed her the stairs, where she called her Luke.

"Luke, some girl named Carrie is here for you!"

"Caroline." She glanced at me, obviously not caring that she said my name wrong. We waited there for a few seconds, but got no reply.

"He probably can't even hear me, I think his door is shut. Just go on up." She walked away from me, and into the kitchen.

I walked up the stairs and approached Luke's bedroom door, seeing that the door was actually opened. I opened the door slowly, looking up the staircase that led to his actual room.

"Luke?" I called up, hoping that he would at least come to the doorway.

"Come on up." Luke yelled, and I trudged up the stairs and into his room. I found Luke sitting on his bed in a dark blue flannel, no shirt underneath, and grey sweats. An odd choice in clothing, but this is Luke we're talking about. And he was doing something I hadn't seen him do in a while, he was reading comic books.

"So, you really are a huge nerd." I laughed as I walked over to Luke's bed.

"I'm not a nerd," Luke said, a smile appearing in his face, not even looking up from the book, "Comic books are just really entertaining, and I am not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "You've read the 'The Fault in our Stars'?" I would have never thought that Luke would read a book like that, it didn't strike me as his cup of tea. He liked comic books, that was his thing.

"Audrey made me read it," He shrugged, "It was actually quite good." I nodded, agreeing with Luke. It was a very good book, I couldn't argue with that. "I even have my own copy now." He laughed.

"Who knew you were a big softy." I poked Luke's cheek, causing him to roll his eyes at me.

"So, you met my mom."

"That was a sudden turn in conversation." I laughed.

"So, you met my mom." Luke repeated, finally looking up at me.

"How do you know it wasn't your dad who answered the door?" I countered, raising an eyebrow at him. To be honest, I wasn't even sure if  his dad was home. I didn't see a man when I came in, but he could be anywhere in the house.

"I heard my mom call for me." Luke flipped the page while sneaking a glance at me.

"Why didn't you come down then?"

"Caroline, you're avoiding the topic." Luke shut his book and laid it down beside of him.

"I didn't know there was a certain topic here."

"Caroline."

"Fine, I met your mom." I sighed, knowing that I wasn't going avid the conversation. Luke's mom wasn't very nice to me, but I didn't want to tell him that.

"And, she wasn't nice."

"Not really." I shook my head, laughing nervously.

"Don't be too upset," Luke chuckled, "She's not nice to anyone. Neither is my dad. I'm pretty sure that's why they're soul mates." Luke did air quotations on the words soul and mates.

"Oh," I nodded. I wasn't sure what to say about that. I already knew that Luke had shitty parents, Calum told me. But I thought that maybe it was another one of his lies, I hoped it was one of his lies. Luke needed someone to care about him, besides his friends. He needed real parents. "I thought they weren't coming home until tomorrow."

"So did I," Luke chewed on his lip ring, "I guess I got the dates mixed up." He shifted a little on the bed, kicking my leg by accident in the process, "I've been up in my room all day."

I climbed onto the bed completely and positioned myself beside Luke, nudging his shoulder with my one. He looked over at me and smiled, revealing the dimple in his cheek.

"Don't sweat it," I shook my head, "I'm here now, so I'll keep you company."

Luke pressed his forehead to mine, and closed his eyes, sighing deeply. He opened them seconds later, his blue eyes meeting my green ones and making my heart race a mile a minute, "Caroline, I really-"

"Luke, what are you doing?" Luke and I jumped back from one another, our eyes traveling to the woman standing by Luke's bedroom door, her hands on her hips.

"Nothing, mom." Luke groaned, rolling his eyes in annoyance.

"What happened to Audrey?" His mom questioned, throwing her hands in the air.

"We broke up." Luke said nonchalantly, standing from his bed and walking to the bathroom. His mom followed, standing at the bathroom door as he did something that I couldn't see.

"Why? She was a really great girl." Luke pushed past his mom and walked out of the bathroom, now wearing a blue tee.

"You met her once." Luke stopped and stared at her stupidly, "Besides, Caroline is a really great girl too." His mom turned and gave me a hard look, then faced Luke again.

"Luke, you need to get your act together." His mom pointed at him. By that one sentence, I knew that she was aware of Luke's reputation. Luke wasn't exactly discrete about it anyways.

"Oh, yeah," Luke scoffed, "Because you really care." It was as if I wasn't even in the room anymore, I was just watching them fuss from the sidelines.

"Don't talk to me like that!" His mom suddenly raised her voice. Luke stared at her blankly, obviously not fazed by his mom's behavior.

"If I had a choice, I wouldn't talk to you at all!" Luke spat, walking over to me and grabbing my hand, pulling me off the bed.

"Where are you going?" Luke didn't answer his mom and she trailed behind us as he pulled me out of the room and down both flights of stairs. "Answer me!"

"Away from you." Luke opened the front door and gently pushed me out before slamming the door in his mom's face.
