Everytime Luke and I went out to eat it always seemed as if he ordered too much food for himself, or he didn't order enough. This happened to be was one of those days where he didn't order quite  enough. Now, he had ordered a burger with fries and a drink, but even that wasn't enough for him. So, here I was standing in line, waiting to order Luke yet another burger.

It had only been a couple of days since my birthday and I felt as if Luke wasn't over what had happened at the dinner. He said it was fine, but I could tell that it upset him. All he wanted was for my parents to like him and instead they made him feel unwanted. I thought they would have at least been nice to him for me, but apparently I was wrong.

Once I went back inside after Luke left, I didn't even speak to them. I went straight to my room and that was where I spent the rest of my night, talking to Calum on the phone and telling him what happened. He only listened and didn't really seem to take sides as I could tell his mind was really somewhere else. I figured he was worried about Mali and her pregnancy. She was his big sister and it was normal for him to be worried, but I felt as if it was more about James. I still hadn't gotten it out of him why he hated him so much, I don't even think there was a reason.

I finally reached the front of the line and ordered Luke's burger and paid, standing to the side patiently as I waited for it to come. There was no one else in line after me and no one was near me, so I was a little startled when I heard someone speak.

"Hi, Caroline." I turned in the direction of the voice and saw the last person I expected. Her long blonde hair was pulled up in a ponytail and she looked a little different. I realized that she was no longer wearing her black frame glasses and figured she had gotten contacts.

"Hi, Audrey." I said slowly, confused as to why she had even spoken to me. She hadn't acknowledged me since she and Luke broke up. I didn't exactly blame her, I wouldn't speak to me either.

"It's been a while," She laughed softly, her eyes shifting around the restaurant as if she didn't really want to look at me. "I saw Luke just a minute ago. I figured you guys were here together."

"Yeah," I responded quietly. I wasn't sure if she had spoken to Luke, as she didn't say.

"You're wearing the necklace." She gestured with her hand to the diamond necklace around my neck. It was the one that she and Luke had given me for Christmas. I nodded.

Audrey barely smiled. "Luke got it for you. I tried to buy you a pair of earrings, but he insisted on that necklace." My hand found the necklace and I cleared my throat. Luke may have been smart, but he wasn't very discrete.

"Look," Audrey sighed and looked down at her hands, fiddling with her fingers. "I'm not mad at you, just so you know. It's not your fault that Luke cheated on me, or that he was with all of those girls. Though, I do wish you would have told me about camp because it would have made everything easier. I mean, I guess I knew all along that Luke was cheating on me-"

"Wait, what?" My eyes widened. The person behind the counter sat Luke the bag with Luke's burger inside down beside me on the counter, but I was too intrigued by what Audrey was saying. I didn't understand why she hadn't broken up with Luke if she knew he was cheating. I mean, I may have been with Luke now after all that he had done, but I just never knew that Audrey suspected anything.

Audrey looked up at me and shrugged her shoulders. "Yeah, I saw the way he looked at other girls and how he would sometimes wink at them, little things like that that he thought I didn't notice. And when he was around you, it was as if no one else was around. I have to admit, I did think that there was something between you two for a while."

"Audrey, I-"

"Let me finish." She cut me off, "Caroline, Luke really cares about you and it does hurt that he never looked at me the way he looks at you and that he never seemed so intrigued by me, but I know that maybe it was just never meant to be. The whole time we were dating, he never once said he loved me, it was always, "I care about you, Audrey." I hated that because I loved him. But, now I know that he loves you and I think that if anyone could change him, it would be you."

"I'm so sorry, Audrey." I sighed. I really felt bad for her, all this was partly my fault. I felt as if I had ruined everything for her. If I had never went to camp during the summer, I wouldn't know Luke and Audrey could of had her idea of a happy ending. Not that I regret meeting Luke, things just would have been easier if I didn't.

"Don't be sorry," Audrey gave me a sad smile, "I'm fine, and I'm not one to hold a grudge."

I picked up the bag that contained Luke's burger and gave her a small smile. "I'll be seeing you." She nodded. I walked past her, but a question popped into my mind and it couldn't hurt to ask it.

"Audrey?" She was already walking away, but she stopped and snapped her head in my direction.

"Yes?"

"Who told you about everything between Luke and I?" Luke hadn't told me and I'm pretty sure he was the only one who knew besides Audrey. Maybe it was none of my business who told her, but it would have been nice to know who knew so much about mine and Luke's life.

"Sorry," Audrey shook her head, a smirk on her face. "I made a promise." With that, she turned and walked away from me, leaving me just as clueless as I was before.

I made my way over to the booth Luke was seated at to find him with his phone in one hand and his other arm thrown over the back of the booth. As I reached the table, Luke looked up from his phone and smiled as I handed him his bag and sat down beside him.

"What took you so long? I almost starved." Luke laughed and I rolled my eyes at him.

"There was a long line." I told him. I wasn't lying, there was a long line when I got there. He nodded in understanding and took his burger out of the bag, unwrapped it and took a huge bite out of it.

"I saw Audrey." Luke mumbled due to the food in his mouth. I wasn't sure if Luke had noticed Audrey as she had noticed him, but now I did.

"So did I."

"Did she say anything to you?" I really didn't want to tell Luke that I had talked to Audrey, so I decided to keep it to myself.

"No," I shook my head, "What about you?"

Luke shifted his eyes away from his burger to me and shook his head as well, "No." I could tell by the way he looked at me that she had and I was sure that he saw the same in my face. Maybe it was best that we kept what she had said to ourselves, she had spoken to us separately and she had probably done that for a reason. She had different things to say to each of us and it was better that she said them individually.

Luke leaned back in the booth and wrapped his free arm around my shoulders as he ate his burger with the other hand. I rested my head on his shoulder and sighed as we sat in silence for the rest of the time.
