"Luke? What are you doing here?" He was the last person I expected to be standing at my front door when I opened it. When he ran off earlier in the day, I didn't see him until lunch. Then, when he sat down at the table, he stayed silent. I tried to talk to him but all he would do was shrug and shake or nod his head. He seemed to be thinking, in a daze the whole time. I tried to ask him if he found out who told Audrey, but he just shook his head.

"Audrey just broke up with me." I didn't say anything, I didn't know what to say. "I went over to her house to talk to her and she said it was over."

"Oh," I said shortly. I was kind of thinking about my mom coming down and seeing Luke at the door, that wouldn't be good. "Um, I don't really think you should be here."

"Why? Are your parents home?" Luke asked, his eyes traveling to something behind me.

"My mom is," I turned to see what he was looking at, praying to God that it wasn't my mom. I saw Kyle standing in the doorway of the kitchen, watching us attentively. He was eating a bag of chips, not bothering to look away as we stared at him. "Hello, creeper."

"Hey, Caroline." He chirped, not seeming fazed by my insult, "Luke." He said sternly, his eyes traveling to the boy in front of me.

"Kyle." Luke said just as sternly, and I glanced between the two of them, clearly confused.

"What's go-"

"Maybe we should talk in my car," Luke cut me off, "We could go for a drive."

"Uh, okay," I turned back to Kyle, and he was still standing there, acting as if he was involved in the conversation. "Can you cover for me?"

"Yeah, sure," He waved his hand, and looked over at Luke, "I'm sure you two have a lot to talk about. And I mean a lot. It would be my pleasure to co-"

"Okay, we get it." Luke cut Kyle off, rolling his eyes. Before I could even say anything else, Luke grabbed my hand and practically dragged me out the door.

Luke and I walked to his car, him still holding my hand. I knew that he and Audrey weren't together anymore, but I wasn't sure what that made me and him. I didn't know what it made me and Audrey. I was sure she mad at me, and I honestly didn't know how to fix it. I knew she probably wouldn't even want to look to me, much less talk to me.

When we reached Luke's car, he dropped my hand and walked around to his side of the car. I climbed in on my side and Luke joined me secconds later.

"Where are we going exactly?" I asked, buckling my seatbelt at the same time as Luke. He shrugged his shoulders and started the car.

"Where do you want to go?" He turned on the radio, and then turned the volume completely down, which confused me.

"It doesn't matter to me." It was now my turn to shrug, "I kind of just want to know what happened with Audrey."

"Well, there's not much to tell," Luke sighed, "I went over there after school to talk to her. She wouldn't even let me in the house, we stayed outside and talked. She told me that she was sorry, but we were over. I don't why she would say she was sorry, she didn't do anything wrong."

"Are you upset?" I wasn't sure exactly what Luke was feeling, he seemed sad. I thought maybe it was because he was having second thoughts about everything.

"Yeah, but it's only because she's hurting, you know? I didn't want that." Luke glanced over at me, and then shrugged again, "But there's nothing I can do about it now."

I reached over and rested my hand on his, which happened to be on his thigh, the other on the steering wheel. Luke looked over at me and smiled, then shifted his gaze back toward the road. He intertwined our fingers and then sighed again, his smile faultering slightly.
