Being that it was my birthday, I had hoped that the day would go smoothly and my parents would actually be somewhat nice to Luke. And by my parents I meant my mom. The whole day she had been fussing about how she didn't want Luke at my dinner and the more I explained to her that he was my boyfriend and that I wanted him there, the madder she seemed to become. I honestly didn't see why she couldn't just realize that I was an adult by the day and that I needed a life of my own, one she couldn't control.

But the moment Luke arrived, she was a completely different person. She was polite and for a little while she even had me fooled. After opening presents, (Luke had slipped a diamond bracelet into my birthday bag) we all sat down to have dinner. It was okay for a while, but Kyle soon started throwing looks at Luke as he rolled his eyes back. I tried to ignore it, but I simply couldn't. The two of them had been acting strange for so long and if one of them didn't tell me what was going on, I was going to flip out.

Then, it was time for the cake. My dad sent Kyle, Dana, and Halle upstairs to eat theirs, though I wasn't exactly sure why, but I did notice that Luke relaxed after Kyle was gone. It was quiet for a few minutes until my dad slipped my mom a look and she cleared her throat.

"So, Luke," My mom started, "Graduation is soon. What college are you going to?"

Luke looked up from his piece of cake and blinked a few times. "Uh, well, I don't know yet. I did get a letter from UCLA a few days ago saying that I was accepted, but I don't know if I'm going there. I have a few more colleges to consider." Of course, Luke had already told me all of this, and I was quite proud of him.

"UCLA?" My mom perked up, "You were accepted to UCLA?" The way my mom said "you" sounded as of she was calling Luke an idiot and he definitely wasn't. He was actually probably one of the smartest people I knew.

Luke's eyebrows crinkled, as if he was confused as to what my mom meant. "Yes, ma'am, I was."

"Caroline was accepted there as well." My dad nodded, "Though, Michelle and I haven't really asked Caroline if that was where she wanted to go." Luke and I had already discussed this, as had Calum and I. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to go to college and if I did I doubted that I would go to UCLA, I still had Brown and Appalachian to consider.

"If you go to UCLA, Luke, and Caroline goes to Brown, your relationship most likely won't work, will it?" I knew what my mom was trying to do and it wasn't going to work. Although Luke and I hadn't exactly discussed the topic, we both knew that we would make it work. Besides, it wasn't even definite that we were going to college at all.

"We'll make it work." I said through gritted teeth. My mom was starting to get me worked up and I didn't want to be.

"I was talking to Luke." My mom snapped. I mentally rolled my eyes.

"What Caroline said, we'll make it work." Luke smiled at me and I returned one.

"I doubt it'll actually work, though." My dad mumbled, but I was sure that Luke heard as he shifted a little in his seat. I was utterly surprised that my dad had said such a thing. I really hadn't thought that he was would go along with my mom's game.

Everything was quiet for a few seconds as everyone continued to eat their cake and I was sure that the questioning and smart remarks were over until my dad opened his mouth and let five simple words fall out.

"Luke, are you a virgin?" Luke almost spit out his drink all over the table and I dropped my fork into my plate, causing a loud clatter throughout the room.

"Dad!" I shrieked, patting Luke's back as he coughed into his hand. I couldn't believe my parents were being so forward and rude. My mom I expected it out of, but not my dad. He was the one who wanted me to invite Luke and it surprised me that he was interrogating him the way he was. And whether Luke was a virgin or not was none of his business.
