Chapter 25- School Preparation

Middle of August..........

My Hogwarts letter arrived finally, and it was worth the wait as it was thicker than usual. Our family owl Griensē flew in and dropped the letter in my lap. I turned it around and saw the Hogwarts crest stamped in red on the back. I opened it and read:

Dear Miss Lovegood,
Please note that the new school year will begin on September the first. The Hogwarts Express will leave from Kings Cross Station, platform nine and three-quarters, at eleven o'clock. Third years are permitted to visit the village of Hogsmeade at certain weekends. Please give the enclosed permission form to your parent or guardian to sign.
A list of books for next year is enclosed.

It had two attachment letters on it, one was a permission form for Hogsmede; the other was a list of items. Since I was studying Divination, I'll need a copy of Unfogging the Future. I also decided to study Astronomy and I needed a copy of Planets, Stars and Moons as I wanted to be a seer. Luna also did divination but did Care of Magical creatures also as she wanted to be a magizoologist. I needed a copy of The Standard Book of Spells: Grade Three, The Guide to Potions and Intermediate Transfiguration and 100 Plants and Fungi! I was intrigued. I was in for a studying, hard working fun year, but I never knew what I was up against.

I walked down the little stairs and spotted dad, reading the Daily Prophet. I tapped him in the solder and he flinched and looked up at me, smiling.
"You scared me, Casey"
I smirked and took out the Hogsmeade form.
"Dad, I need you to sign this form, it's for permission to go to Hogsmeade this year as I'm a third year"
He nodded and I handed him the form, just in time as Luna ran over with her's. Dad signed it and I grabbed it, placing it in my pocket.
"Dad, I also need a few new books and a new set of school robes for this year. As does Luna, I'm sure" I spoke and looked over at Luna and she nodded. He stood up.
"Very well then! Your birthday's are coming up very soon, so while we're at Flourish and Blotts, you can have a book each. Does that sound good?"

Luna and dad finally came through the floo network and we walked into Flourish and Blotts. There were books everywhere and I made a mental note about the books and items I needed;
- Unfogging the Future
- 100 Plants and Fungi
- The Standard Book of Spells: Grade Three
- Intermediate Transfiguration
- The Guide to Potions- which I already have
- New School Robes
- Gloves & Ear Muffs for herbology
- Plannets, Stars and Moons
I walked up to the counter and a lady wearing a long sleeved dress smiled at me.
"How can I help you?"
"I need a few books for Hogwarts"
"Which ones?"
"Unfogging the future, 100 Plants and Fungi, Intermediate Transfiguration, Planets, Stars and Moons and the Standard book of spells, grade three, ."
She nodded and headed over to the Divination area and handed me the copy of Unfogging the Future. Next she immediately grabbed me the standard book of spells: grade three and intermediate transfiguration. She walked over to another bookshelf and handed me a copy of the 100 Plants and Fungi. I smiled and she walked back to her desk. I placed the books on the counter with Luna's in which she already had.
"Anything else?" She asked. I nodded.
"I need a new set of Hogwarts Robes, as well as we need gloves and earmuffs for Herbology"
She nodded and measured my height and length with a tape measure and placed a new set of robes along with the gloves and earmuffs on the counter with the books. Next she went to Luna and measured her and did the same. She grabbed a set of robes for her and also placed it on the counter. She counted the items and spoke clearly.
"35 Galleons and 10 sickles"
Dad nodded and handed her the money. She grabbed it and we placed the items in our satchels. Dad looked at us.
"Now, girls. Go and pick a book, as a special treat"
I smiled and walked over to the divination area, but Luna walked over to the fantastic beasts section and clutched a copy of Magical Creatures of Britian immediately. I smirked and glanced at the shelf. One book caught my eye. It was called The Guide to Crystals, Crystal Balls, Bird entrails, leaf reading and Palmistry. Dad already left us as he was going to publish the newest edition of the Quibbler at the Ministry, so he left us with 20 sickles for a treat. We walked to the pet shop and looked at all the cool pets. Luna looked at the rainbow lizards with fascination. I smiled and glanced at the rainbow frogs that illuminated in colours. My eyes almost exploded out of my head in amazement. I must've stared for a few minutes as Luna was tapping me on the shoulder. I looked over at her and smiled. She pointed at the price. 5 sickles. My eyes lit up and I looked over at her in amazement. She smiled and handed me the 5 sickles and I hugged her in delight, heading to the counter and paying for it. The cashier walked over to the tank with the frogs and I pointed one illuminate green one. She nodded and handed it to me in a small see through box with a carrying handle. I smiled and walked out the door with Luna. We headed to the Devlin's Cakes and Sweets, grabbing an ice cream each. Luna grabbed boysenberry blue and I grabbed chocolate mint chip. It was my favourite. After finishing our ice-creams in the shop, we headed out the door and towards the floo network.

I looked around and saw that it was starting to get busy, due to the day getting later, so we paced to the floo network, clutching our boxes and waited for a couple of people to go through before us before we grabbed the powder and flooed to our house.
