Earning Their Trust (Part 1)

One Shot #7

Wanda's POV

I recently was recruited by S.H.E.I.L.D. to join the Avengers, but to be completely honest, I'm not quite sure I belong here. It's not that I don't want to better myself both as a person and using my powers for good, it's just that I seem to cause more harm than good wherever I go. It's my fault that my home country ceases to exist now. It's my fault that my brother is dead. It's my fault that I've managed to piss off every single Avenger... except Vision. I don't know why, but he has yet to flip out at me. I'm waiting to receive of his blows but I don't think a blow from him is coming anytime soon. I think I'm going to go talk to him and find out why that is. I walk down the hall to his room and knock on the door. He opens the door a few seconds later.

"Wanda, why it's nice to see you. What brings you to my chambers?" I bite my lip and fidget nervously. "I'm sorry to bother you Vision, but I wanted to ask you something that's been on my mind for a few days now." Vision looks at me with confusion. "Is everything okay Wanda? My senses detect that something's troubling you." I sigh. "Vision, all of the other Avengers seem to hate me. Why don't you?" Vision's facial expression softens a bit. "They weren't fond of me at first either. If you can recall, they seemed to think that I was a monster that Ultron planned to unleash to destroy the world." I wince slightly. "I do remember that, though if it's any consolation, I never thought you were a monster. In fact, I was intrigued by you even when you were undergoing your birthing process.'

Vision takes a step closer to me. "Listen Wanda, the Avengers don't quite trust you yet nor do they completely trust me, but in due time, we'll both be seen as worthy to be here. We're going to have to prove ourselves worthy more than the rest, but we'll get there. I like to have... what do you call it... faith." My frown shifts into a small smile. "So, does that make us friends?" He nods with a smile. "I suppose it does. As a good friend, I want to offer you training lessons. You see, the stone on my head is composed with a lot of the elements of your powers. Out of all of the Avengers here, I best understand how to control your powers." "I'd love to have lessons with you. When do we start?" Visions smirks at me. "How about right now?" I smirk and pretend to think about it. "I don't know... I think I have to check my schedule."  I pull out my phone and look at the calendar on it. "Well the good news is I'm free right now."

I grab a hold of Vision's arm and pull him towards an empty training room. When we get there, I point to where he should stand. I then sit down on the floor in front of him with an eager expression on my face. "Teach." He chuckles and dives right in. He gives me instructions step by step, going at just the right pace for me to be able to keep up with but not feel like an idiot either. When he feels as though I'm ready, he lets me try out a few simple tricks. I manage to do all of them successfully. Visions put a hand on my shoulder. "I knew you'd be a natural Wanda. Excellent job. I have a few more I'd like to teach you before we do some practice combat." I nod and let him teach me the rest of the tricks, which I also manage to perform successfully. Then, Vision and I get into battle stance and test out combating using both of powers at the same time, though we're careful not to cause anything in the room to explode, burst into flames, etc.

Vision and I both hold our own, though in the end, I actually manage to beat him. A surge of victory runs through my veins. Vision is super powerful and the fact that I was actually able to overpower him is quite an accomplishment. "I have to hand it to you Wanda, you're the fastest learner I've ever seen. Great job!" He extends a hand for me to shake which I gladly do. "Good job yourself Vision. That battle was a pretty close call." He smiles down at me. "I know you have a workout session to report to soon so I'll leave you to it. Perhaps I could accompany you to dinner later?" A slight blush creeps onto my face. "I would love for you to accompany me to dinner later." I start to head towards the door. "See you later Vision." He gives me a smile and wave. "See you later Wanda."

For the rest of the day, I'm in a really good mood. I actually have a friend in this overwhelming place, one that understands what it's like to be an outsider himself. Honestly, deep down, I had a feeling that out of everyone here, Vision was going to be the most accepting. I'm glad my instincts were right. Steve is warming up to me a little bit. He's making small talk with me about how to use certain equipment, exercise techniques that would suit me well, and how I'm adjusting. This is progress. If Steve is warming up to me, maybe the rest of the Avengers besides Vision and Steve will too. After I'm done with my workout, I go to the bathroom that Natasha and I share to take a quick shower before dinner.

Twenty minutes later...

I'm all clean and dressed for dinner. Vision should be at my door any minute now, though instead of knocking like a normal person would, he comes through my door... literally. The action startles me a little bit. "Vision, I'm going to have to teach you the art of knocking. You really scared me." He frowns. "Sorry Wanda. I promise you that I'll knock next time... if you can teach me after dinner." I giggle. "I can teach you how to knock on a door after dinner." He nods. That would be most appreciated. Thank you." I nod and we head down to the cafeteria to eat dinner. Vision and I receive a lot of stares and whispers from people, including some of the Avengers. We simply ignore them while I grab my food and a drink. Vision doesn't require food or drinks, just some moderate rest is all. We then sit down at our down table, though Steve surprisingly joins us. The three of us talk up quite a storm.

Vision grabs a hold of my hand and squeezes it under the table, letting me know that things will truly be okay and having Steve on our side is a really good start.
