Having a best friend is one of the greatest joys in the world; losing them was one of the worst pains. You had met Victoire when you joined Hogwarts and hit it off instantly, however in recent weeks it seemed as though you had never met. It pained you dearly. She had been your best friend for so long, and although your heart yearned for more, you certainly didn't want your friendship to ever end.

It was almost impossible to even make eye contact with her without her shying away and scurrying off, which was unlike her- Victoire was far from shy.

You noticed her rising from her seat in the grand hall for breakfast early to retreat to class, but you hastily followed, stopping her in the deserted hall.

"Victoire," you said softly.

"Y/N... I... I need to get to class," she said frantically attempting to walk away.

It was out of character for her. She was never one to stutter or to ever step down from her point, nor was she ever one to get to class early.

"Bull," you frowned.

"Pardon?" She said softly as you blocked her way.

"Bullshit Weasley," you stated. "What's wrong? You'd think we didn't even know each other's names let alone be best friends."

Her cheeks became flushed, something else you had never known her to do, as she seemed lost for words.

"Nothing Y/N," she said looking down at her feet. "I can't do this right now."

"Victoire Weasley, do not do this. I am sick of you ignoring me, acting like we aren't friends. Is that what you want? Do you want to stop being friends?" You frowned, certainly not wanting that to be the case. "I at least deserve you to tell me, not just to leave."

She seemed frustrated with herself, running a hand through her blond hair, latching onto it in annoyance.

"I like you okay," she exclaimed. "I like you as more than a friend. I have for too long, but Merlin I am terrified of that. Girls are supposed to like boys. You aren't a boy so I shouldn't like you. Girls shouldn't like girls, it's wrong and mum and dad will be so sad."

It took you back slightly. She felt the same. That was something you never thought would be the case. However, that wasn't the point at hand. You had far more pressing issues to face.

"Victoire, there's nothing wrong with liking girls," you said softly. "Society is cruel and yes there will be some idiots who have an issue with it but love is love, and like is like, who gives a damn? Your parents certainly wouldn't and neither do I. Anyone worthwhile will understand that the heart works in mysterious ways and it isn't going to abide by binary gender roles."

A small smile crawled onto her face, bringing back the Victoire you knew and loved.

"I thought you'd think I was stupid or it was wrong. I've wanted to tell you for so long."

"You're an idiot Weasley," you grinned leaning in to press your lips to her in a passionate kiss.
