If only you weren't so socially awkward and could formulate a normal conversation to express your feelings. Sadly, that certainly wasn't the case. You had known Hermione since you started Hogwarts and now you had both graduated and lived your own lives, but you were still unable to tell her how you felt. Your interest in her had blossomed many years ago, so long ago that you didn't know when it truly started but you were too scared of ruining your friendship with her and being rejected. There was no reason, you could think of as to why she would like you in return, you were surprised she even liked you as a friend.

Instead of risking your friendship and getting rejected, you thought of something that was less awkward to discuss. You had arranged a date, just not between you and Hermione, but between your cat, Y/C/N and her cat, Crookshanks. It might have seemed a bit odd but both of you cared about your cats dearly and were happy to have a little cat date, if only she knew that you liked her too.

Hermione arrived at your home with Crookshanks, placing the cat down beside your own before coming to sit at your side. The two felines sniffed at each other before promptly lying down and falling asleep, as cats did.

"I think our cats like each other," you commented.

Cats didn't do much and seen as they weren't attempting to rip pieces out of each other, it was easy to assume they were on at least simply good terms with each other.

Hermione nodded her head.

Seeing your cat actually succeeding at the date with her cat friend, you felt almost confident with Hermione there.

"Can I admit something?" You asked.

"What?" Hermione said, cocking an eyebrow.

"I had an ulterior motive to this 'cat date'," you admitted. "I wanted to ask you on a date, but I didn't want to mess up our friendship if you didn't like me in return."

A gentle smile curled upon her lips, her cheeks becoming redder.

"I would've said yes to a date," she smiled.

Your expression mirrored hers, excited that she felt even remotely the same as you did. Even though this was a moment that the last few years of your life had been building up to, you didn't know what you were meant to say. Instead, you let your hand wander to the space on the sofa between you and allow your fingers to entwine with hers for a simple but appreciated moment for you.
