You walked to Lily's house and knocked on the door with a closed fist, the door flew open.

"Oh hey Y/N, I wasn't expecting you quite this early, but it's okay, I was just finishing getting ready. Come on in." You wiped the mud from your boots and stepped into the small house, the dark exterior was dwarfed by the brightly coloured interior, vases of flowers adorned every crevice and the walls were painted a cheery green.

"So... where have you got planned for us to go?"

"Well..." you said nervously "I don't a table booked anywhere, but I thought maybe we could go for a picnic?" You walked back outside and picked up a basket that you had brought along, filled with various food and drinks, you slung a red chequered cloth over your shoulder. Her face lit up with excitement and she grabbed your hand.

"Oh Y/N, I love the idea, I know a lovely place we can go that is only a short walk away, you're such a good friend." After discovering that you only lived a short bus ride from Lily, you had spend most of your summer away from Hogwarts with her. You had grown very fond of her, you weren't sure if it was her bubbly personality or her astonishingly good looks but there was just something about her that you just couldn't stay away from.

She left the house and strolled up the road, you walked by her side, you had planned for today to be the day that you told her how you really felt.

You had ended up landing at a large, park.

"Do you think this will be good?" She asked. What you wanted to say was 'it doesn't matter where we sit, no view can compare to you.' Instead you managed to mumble out a feint "sure."

She took the cloth off of your shoulder and placed it on the ground, setting the basket on top. You both sat down and began to pull plates out of the box, along with small packages of food.

"Lily..." she turned to you and your heart began to pound in your chest, but you just couldn't bring yourself to say anything "would you like a drink?" you handed her a small bottle.

She giggled to herself and began to put food on her plate.

"Look Y/N..." she said, holding her hands together in her lap. "I really like you." Your heart began to race faster and faster.

"I really like you too Lily." She blushed and looked down to the floor, she looked sad.

"I really like you but I need to tell you something."

"Sure." You said eagerly "you can tell me anything."

She inhaled deeply and gazed into your eyes.

"Me and James are together, we haven't told anybody but it has been going on for some time now. I thought I would tell you just so you didn't get the wrong idea, but still. I really... really like you."

Your heart dropped and your mouth went dry.

"Oh..."

* Two weeks later

You hadn't spoke to Lily since the picnic, you hoped to clear the air with her but you couldn't seem to find her, the last place to look was the fountain, where you and your friends would rarely meet up. It was always hard on the first day back, homework you had not done and new groups of children running through the halls of Hogwarts. Your hand shot up as your usual group of friends came into view, but before you could get to them Lily walked in front of you.

"Hey Y/N... I didn't hear from you, how was the rest of your summer?" She kept on looking down at the floor and holding her hands together.

"Yeah... it was okay... I guess, didn't do much, can we talk..."

"No Y/N she said, you saw James approaching her from behind... Its probably best to not mention what happened last summer."
