Your swollen ankles were propped up on a footstool as your husband took a seat on the other end of the sofa to you. Usually he would sit by your side and make sure you were okay but for the last few weeks he had avoided you like the plague. It worried you when Neville took a seat further away from you or didn't give you the gentle smile that you loved dearly, you were already completely lost with a baby on its way but with your husband being distant you weren't sure you would be able to cope.

"Nev," you whispered, apprehensive of how he would react.

He snapped out of his thoughts and looked at you. Rather than the loving smile that he usually gave you, he looked fearful.

"What's wrong?" You asked.

"Nothing," he said too quickly for it to be natural.

"Then why do you barely look at me anymore?" You asked. "You've not come to bed for the last week."

Neville gave you a sympathetic look, apologetic for the way he had been treating you but wasn't certain on how to explain it to you.

"Our baby is due any day Neville and now is the time you decide to give up on me?" You whispered, trying not to cry. "Please just tell me what is wrong Nev, if I've done something tell me and I'll try to change."

He let out a sigh. "It's not you Y/N."

"If you say that it's you, I will hit you," you frowned.

Neville shook his head.

"I'm scared," he whispered. "I am terrified, and I didn't mean to distance myself from you, but I was trying to think everything through, it just took longer than I hoped."

"What are you scared of?" You asked, concerned for him.

He gestured to your enlarged stomach before curling back into himself, avoiding your eye not wishing to keep eye contact with you.

"Pregnancy?" You questioned. "If so, it's a bit late to figure that one out."

"No, the baby," he sighed.

You reached out for his hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. You loved Neville dearly and he did struggle to express his emotions sometimes if he feared how you'd react to them, but you needed to reassure him that you weren't going anywhere.

"I'm scared I'm going to fail them. I was excited for us to have a son or daughter but now it is so real, I don't think I'm ready to be a father. What if I cannot be everything that they need?"

Raising his hand to your lips, you kissed it gently.

"Neville, I love you more than anything and so will our baby. I know that you are going to be the best father this child could wish for. No matter what you do, you will be giving our child their best life."

"You really think so?" He asked nervously.

"I know that you're going to be the best father, Neville, you just need to believe that you're going to be too."
