Kaiden's POV:
"Stephanie we talked about this," I repeated."No you talked. I just happen to disagree with everything you said," she commented, running her hand up and down my chest.
"Stop," I said, taking her hand off of me.
"Why are you leaving me?" she yelled out in a groan.
"Because I have to," I said as I started to walk away.
I heard her murmur something but I paid no attention. I walked passed the Mrs. Zetterstrum's classroom and went outside to the football field. I sat down near the top and took a cigarette out of my pocket. I lit the cigarette and took a puff as I stared out at the field. The sky was getting cloudy so it was probably going to rain later.
"What are you doing out here?" I heard a voice call from my left.
I turned and saw Jade walking up the bleachers to where I was sitting. I scooted over and made room for her next to me. She tossed her bookbag onto the step in front of us and sat down next to me.
"You okay?"
"Yeah," I responded.
"Kaiden come on, you're obviously not okay. What's wrong?"
"I messed up," I said.
"With what? The marriage?"
"Yes. I messed up," I said, burying my face in my hands.
"No you didn't," Jade says.
"I did," I sat still, leaning forward, leaning my elbows and arms on my legs.
"How? You took her to Las Vegas, you got her drunk, and you married her. You did what you were supposed to do," she listed.
"We didn't get married," I admitted.
"What?" Jade froze completely.
Her gasp was so loud I was afraid someone from inside the building heard it.
"We didn't actually get married," I played with my hands nervously.
"You're not actually married?" Jade whispered, her teeth never separating.
I shook my head slowly, putting my head down.
"I'm lying to her. This whole thing is really hard on her and I'm only making it worse by putting her through this when it's not even true."
"What happened in Vegas?"
"I did follow her there and I did get her drunk. But she got too drunk and at some point she just passed out so I took her back to the hotel. How was I going to marry her unconscious body? That has to be illegal or something."
"So how did you get her to think you two got married?" Jade raised an eyebrow.
"I got two people to bring it up at a diner. I paid them off."
Jade looked out at the field for a while, as did I. I watched the wind move the grass and the leaves of the trees. I stared at the blocks on the wall of the building.
"What are you going to do?" Jade turned to face me.
"I don't know," I turned to face her too.
