Red, the bat, was obligated to protect the red gem no matter what. It was his job, and he'd do it even if it led to his death. He had nothing else to do. No other purpose. He knew two other guardians. He's good friends with them both, however he's seen one most recently. Going to see the guardian of the green gem meant he'd have to leave the red gem unguarded. Unlike the white gem, he'd have to travel literally worlds away from his gem. He kept his gem on top of the Jempire State Building. Way up top, on the flat top of it's green roof. It was clamped in between two pieces of arched stone on a raised part of the roof. Today, Red was planning on visiting the other guardians. He didn't know about the green guardians wellness, he could have passed away. However, in the past when they fought together, he counted those two guardians as his pals, peers, friends. They've gotten more distant to fulfill they're duties, but one thing in common was they're rivalry against Lord Mare. Mare had, in the past, destroyed all of they're planets with no problem. Them, the last of they're species, were lucky enough to run into Blue. Blue brought them to safety, and gave them the gems. But since Red had heard that Mare was back, a new guardian was in possession of a gem, and Mare has the Book of Gems, he had to discuss it to the others. Red wasn't used to seeing this many changes in a short amount of time. He took the red gem and stuffed it in the red cloth around the top of his head. Every guardian had one, though the color was determined by the gem they guarded. He went to the edge of the roof and jumped without hesitation. He spread out his arms and caught a hold of the wind. He used the element the gem gave him and sprayed fire from his hands and feet. He pointed his hands downward to slow his fall and directed himself up more when close to the ground. Seconds before contact, Red used the flames to push himself up, flying parallel from the ground. He extinguished the flames and landed with a roll. He was heading towards the Marescape, running at a fast speed, and without stops or obstacles. He jumped on the rainbow colored building and flipped himself on it's roof. He ran to the opposite end and jumped off, down onto a skinny path of purple rock. Jumping a little off could've sent him falling down what looked like a never-ending abyss. He was in the Marescape now, running across the purple path at a surprisingly, very fast speed. Whitey was doing his usual duty, plus one duty he's adopted as an extra. He guards the white gem, and calls an old, crumbling cave his home. He stashes his gem in a spiderweb he made in a hidden corner of the cave. Next to his web was a hole, barely noticable in human eyes, but easily noticable with all eight of his. He was effortlessly standing on the ceiling with only four of his legs, and used his other four to readjust the white gem so it stuck in his web better. After he was sure the gem was secure, he climbed through the small hole in the cave. This led him out on top of the cave, where he had a good view of the Marescape tower. He spied on this place often. Usually there's no activity going on, but recently he's seen Mare leaving and entering, huge portals that Mare shipped large amounts of Nightmares through, and fights from even inside of the cave itself. Knowing someone was against Mare and taking action, he didn't really want to concern himself on it. They could handle it, whoever they were. He was to protect the white gem, not to stop Mare from whatever he's up too. He did know Red was coming to meet though. He knows Red well and even talks to him periodically. They can easily predict each other's actions and work phenomenal as a team. Whitey saw no unusual activity at the Marescape tower, so he crawled back through the hole just as he saw red coming in. It took Red a second to locate the all orange, earth-sized spider due to his small size.
Whitey, in a voice sounding not at all different from Red's, said to him, "hey Red. It's been a while I guess."
Red turned to Whitey and responded.
"Yes," he responded, "a real long while."
"I know why you came."
"Of course ya do."
"It does all seem concerning..."
"Yes."
"And you expect us... Guardians... Guardians, to budge in?"
"Well, I guess you can say that."
"That's, extremely and stupidly dangerous. We shouldn't be putting ourselves out there. He's probably trying to find and kill us right now. We'd be doing him a favor if we come out."
"One of us are already in danger."
"Greeny?"
"No, but soon he will be."
"Then who, us?"
"Somewhat..."
"It can't be Blue."
"Not him either... I hope."
Whitey stared at him, in both thought and confusion. "There's no other Guardian than us four... Are there?"
"Based in what a delusional teenager told me, there's a new guardian of the blue gem. He's gotta be new, which means inexperienced, which also means vulnerable."
"He'll realise that and probably go into hiding. He can learn how to use the gem by himself. We don't need to interfere."
"We don't need to, but we should."
"How do we find them?"
"We don't... We let them, find us."
Whitey could usually predict what Red means with something as simple as a gesture, but he had no idea what Red was rambling about now. But then a lightbulb flashed. But not a good one, a stupid one. A lightbulb of certain death. A lightbulb if recklessness and pure idiocy.
"You can't mean..."
"Yes, they'll come and save us... Mare won't kill us if we don't tell him where the gems are, and we keep Greeny in the background to help us all if they fail. And the teenager, the brown skinned human, he'd be backup if all of us, and Greeny fails."
"Too risky."
"Which are reasons the ducks quit their job."
"They were cowards."
"And we're not."
Whitey thought for a second before responding to Red, "this better work."
