Sean's POV

"Who told you that?" I asked her.

"Your doctor. She said you're sick because your mate's a human. Really? Are you sick because I'm your mate?" She innocently asked.

"No, she's a blunt. Why are you listening to her? I'm just sick because I had a drink last night." I tried to convince her.

"Promise?" She asked.

"Of course ido!" I told her. Ido was short for idiot.

But there was something else too bothering her and she wasn't telling me that... I sensed fear and a distance from her.

"What else did she say?" I straightforwardly asked her.

"... She said... That..." She wasn't telling me the whole thing.

Was she afraid of me?

"Leila" I said with a stern tone.

She just kept quiet and hung her head low.

I reached out to her hands in her laps and that somehow gave her some confidence...

"She said... When Vampires have mates of other kinds, the scare them and threaten them because those mates are not more than a burden to them and that...that..." She couldn't make out further.

"That...?"

"That... Such mates just make Vampires weak and this is why they hate them and then eventually..." She stopped again but looked at me in the eye. I didn't tell her to continue 'cause I could see her effort to go on herself.

She swallowed the lump forming and continued with confidence,

"And eventually, Vampires themselves kill their mates. Fiercely and brutally..."

She looked at me with questioning eyes. I couldn't believe someone could really try to cause such misunderstandings among mates. Especially a Vampire.

Leila just kept on staring me in the eyes and I did the same. The difference was... She was asking me and I was finding words to explain.

I broke the stare as I blinked my eyes. I sighed and intertwined our fingers.

"Leila, I don't know who's crazy here. You, who believed such stuff or me, who's hearing this...

It's not like that. It isn't possible. Vampires live their mates. They kill others for them not them for others. We remain mates or not, nobody can change the fact that you're mine." With that I could feel Leila's heart pacing. Now, I don't know if it was because I called her 'mine' or because my eyes were slowly turning black with passion.

"You like it or not, you want it or not, you're my responsibility and I don't run from my responsibilities..."

"Okay, okay" She said actively as she closed her eyes. My eyes were turning black...

She opened her eyes and we both remained silent. She kept her gaze on her laps and I slowly, hesitantly leaned my head towards hers. When our both foreheads met, she leaned hers on mine too.

I sighed as my tension went away. I brushed my hand against her right shoulder to push her hair away.

"Sorry. I shouldn't have listened to her." She apologized.
