Jack and I go to a cute little restaurant along the boardwalk. We have a beautiful view of the water from where we are seated. The sound of crashing waves is loud, yet calming to me. Jack and I take this time to learn the basics about each other. We both have the same favourite colour, blue, the same favourite sport, soccer, the same favourite flavor of ice cream, mint chocolate chip, as well as a lot more commonalities. The best thing I think we discovered is that we both have the same taste in music. We spend almost an hour talking about it. Had the resturaunt we were at been more full, I might have been worried about taking up a table for too long, but we didn't seem to be bothering anyone. I was nervous going into the date. I really like Jack, and I didn't want to mess things up. Little did I know, Jack would make me feel more comfortable than I've ever been with another person - aside from my parents. As I sat there, on the brown woven chair, French fries with Jack, I knew that this would be one of my fondest memories. Jack made it a habit of stealing my fries, even when he clearly had enough of his own. Normally, I would be mad at someone for taking my food, but somehow the adorable giggle Jack made after stealing each fry made everything okay. His entire face would smile, and be full of giggles, as he stuffed the fry in his mouth. It was okay though, because for every fry he stole from me, I stole two from him. We decided to share a milkshake for dessert. Vanilla of course, with whipped cream on top. The milkshake came in a tall glass, with two straws. At first, we passed it between each other, taking a sip, and then giving it to the other to have their sip. Evenutally, we both just leaned in and drank the cool, milkey beverage at the same time. I made sure not to look up, so not to make awkward eye contact while our faces were so close together. Jack reached his arm to my leg under the table, and gently laid a hand on my knee. This simple gesture was so gentle, and kind, yet it made my heart beat with excitement. I knew that Jack was the one for me. We finished up the rest of our food and got back into his car.
"Want to see a movie?" He asked me, putting his hand on the wheel, and leaning back. I think for a second, about everything we talked about at dinner. "I have a better idea. Can we go to that beach you took me to before?" I ask. Jack smiles and puts the car in reverse, backing out of its parking spot. "Say no more." He says with a smile. Just like that, we are driving to the beach together, under the slowly setting sun.
