It was time for the second Gym Battle. Leaf and I were ready with our Pokemons in a healthy state and we walked towards the Pokemon Gym, after asking the directions from Bill, the Copycat or whatever they call him.

I was thinking about our lovely friend Magikarp. I never battled with that poor little guy but he actually knew only one attack - Splash !

So, I thought I should bring it out of it's Pokeball and be friendly with him, feed him and play with him but I still had a Gym Battle to do. And then I had a really bad idea, to send Magikarp in the Gym Battle.

It was a really bad idea, but if Magikarp won it would evolve into a Gyarados. I love that Pokemon. It probably the only water type I like.

We stood outside the Gym.
'This is it', said Leaf. Pushing the door open.

The Gym was huge with a big swimming pool in the middle. I sent out Magikarp to tell him that he was going to fight the match, along with Pikachu.

'Are you really going to use THAT ?', asked Leaf in a ridiculous way.
'Yes, I am. Magikarp needs to be in battle to evolve in Gyarados', I said.
'Boohahahah. It would not evolve that soon'.
'It can if it wins against a strong Pokemon'.
'And how it would win ?'.
'I'll figure that out in the match'.

Magikarp looked happy, it was about to Splash in the pool when suddenly a tall girl who looked two years older stopped it from splashing and put Magikaro gently in the water.

'You can't splash. See that board', said the girl pointing towards a board.

The board had No splashing in the pool written on it. Magikarp became sad again.

The girl had a tom boy hairstyle and had mustard yellow coloured hair. She wore a swimming costume.

'We are here to battle', I said.
'Where is the Gym Leader ?', asked Leaf.
'I am Misty, the Gym Leader of Cerulean City', said the girl.

She looked too young to be a Gym Leader and besides, she is a girl (couldn't write was in the sentence. would've looked bad).

'Ready to battle ?', asked Misty.
'Ever ready', I replied.
'Can I battle first ?', asked Leaf.
'Yeah sure', I said.
'Let's start', said Misty.

Misty and Leaf took position to battle. The battle was taking place in the pool, luckily Misty set up floating boards to handle Pokemon weights so that they could battle.

'The battle would be a two on three. I would use two and you would use three', said Misty, explaining the rules.
'That's fine for me', said Leaf.

Misty sent out a star shaped Pokemon and Leaf sent out Bulbasaur. She had the type advantage.

Leaf pointed the Pokedex towards the star shaped Pokemon.

'Staryu, a Star Shape Pokemon. It appears in large numbers by seashores. At night, its central core flashes with a red light', explained the Pokedex.

Staryu VS Bulbasaur was fun and finally Staryu was defeated. Then Misty sent out another Star Shaped Pokemon, probably the evolution of Staryu. Leaf pointed the Pokedex again.

'Starmie, a Mysterious Pokemon. This POKéMON has a geometric body. Because of its body, the locals suspect that it is an alien creature', explained the Pokedex.

Then Bulbasaur fainted and Leaf sent out Vulpix, which was a bad choice. Vulpix fainted with a type disadvantage and Leaf chose Spearow who later on evolved in the battle.

Finally, the match ended with Leaf as the winner. Misty gave Leaf the Cascade Badge. Leaf was happy now and it was my turn to battle.

'Shall we start ?', asked Misty.
'Yes', I said.
'Same rules here'.
'Fine with me'.
'Go Staryu'.
'Go Magikarp'.

Misty and Leaf both stared at me, confirming that I was serious. Then they controlled their laughter.

'What ?', I asked.
'Are you really gonna battle me with that ?', asked Misty.
'Hell ya', I replied in a confident way. 'Magikarp, Splash'.
'Staryu, Protect', said Misty. 'I am not attacking it'.
'Why ?', I asked.
'Because it would be unfair', said Misty.
'Magikarp, Splash', I said.

The water splashed around, probably doing nothing.

'Use Recover', said Misty.

What if I asked Magikarp to use Splash with full potential ? The water could hit Staryu, but Staryu was a Water Type. The Splash wouldn't do anything.

'Magikarp, go near it and use Splash with full power', I said.

Magikarp was angry it went too near, using Splash not on water but on Staryu. It hit Staryu badly. It was just like a Tackle attack.

'A Tackle attack ?', said Misty.
'Magikarp could do that ?', asked Leaf.
'No. But it could use Splash on anything', I said.
'Excellent', said Misty. 'Staryu, Water Gun'.

A critical hit on Magikarp. I wanted to switch Magikarp but using Pikachu would be unfair in a Gym Battle. It belonged to my dad, I didn't train him so it would be unfair.

'Magikarp, well done. Go Charmander', I said.
'Staryu, Water Gun'.
'Charmander, Metal Claw', I said.

A critical hit, Staryu fainted. Charmander flashed blue and grew in shape and size and finally evolved. I pointed my Pokedex towards it.

'Charmeleon, a Flame Pokemon. It lashes about with its tail to knock down its foe. It then tears up the fallen opponent with sharp claws', explained the Pokedex.

'Charmeleon ? Hey, how are you feeling, bud ?', I asked. Charmeleon gave a thumbs up and a half hearted smile.
'Go Starmie', said Misty.
'Charmeleon, Metal Claw', I said.
'Starmie, Water Pulse'.

Charmeleon fainted.
'Come back. You were great. Go Pidgey', I said.
'Starmie, use Water Pulse'.
The attack missed.
'Pidgey, use Sand Attack', I said.
Pidgey threw sand on Starmie. Starmie was unable to see. I wonder how, it didn't have eyes.
'Starmie, Water Pulse in the front. Forty-five degrees', said Misty. It hit Pidgey and Pidgey fainted.

I had the last choice, Magikarp.
'Come back. Go Magikarp. Use Tackle', I said.
Magikarp happily hit Starmie. He was happy because it attacked for the first time.
'Starmie, Water Pulse', said Misty but Starmie couldn't see because of Pidgey's Sand Attack. Starmie's attack missed.
'Magikarp, use Tackle'.
'Starmie, Rapid Spin'.
It hit Magikarp badly but Magikarp was still ready to battle.
'Magikarp, Tackle', I said.
It hit Starmie's diamond in the center making it crack open. It hit Starmie badly. It probably needed a repair. Starmie fainted.

Magikarp won but didn't evolve. I was given the Cascade Badge and Magikarp was appreciated alot. It was finally happy than ever. I called Magikarp back.

We went outside and missed my dad again. His voice again said something in my head. He said - Well done, son.

I really wanted to know what happened that night, two years back. I talked to Leaf about it which made me feel better.

Till then, bye.
