Slowpoke and Shellder (Red)

Kabutops fainted.

'Come back, Kabutops. You fought awesome', I said. 'I choose you, come out Pikachu'.

'Vulpix, Ember would do', said Blaine.

It didn't affect Pikachu.

'Pikachu, Thundershock would do', I said, becoming overconfident with Pikachu.

As expected, Vulpix was knocked out.

'Oh, a powerful Pikachu, huh ?', said Blaine. 'Go Growlithe'.

'Pikachu, finish off with Thunderbolt', I said.

'Growlithe is not weak. He's level forty one', said Blaine.

'Growlithe, Flamethrower'.

Pikachu fainted. Growlithe's attack was super effective.

'Come back, Pikachu. Go Gyarados', I said.

'Excellent choice', said Blaine. 'Growlithe, Take Down'.

'Gyarados, Water Gun', I said.

Growlithe fainted.

'As I said, first one's easy', said Blaine. 'Last battle will be held tomorrow, so get ready'.

'I'm gonna take away the badge', I said. 'I'm sure of that'.

'Overconfidence, I've seen many like you, kid', said Blaine.

'I think you're wrong, you've seen no one like me', I said.

'Maybe', said Blaine.

'I want to challenge you too', said Leaf, remembering the fact that she's a trainer too.

'Oh, I had no idea', said Blaine. 'I'll ask you five different questions and you know the rules'.

'Yes', said Leaf.

'What is the Spitfire Pokemon ?', asked Blaine. 'The one your friend got incorrect'.

'Magmar', said Leaf.

'Good', said Blaine. 'Where can you find a Charmander ?'.

'Hey, you're asking easy questions from her', I objected.

'I asked you the same level of questions', said Blaine.

'Charmander is a rare Pokémon, it has no particular area for encountering', said Leaf.

'Great', said Blaine. 'Is there a Pokemon with only one move ?'.

'Yes, Ditto', said Leaf.

'Impressive', said Blaine. 'How many Pokémons are there in Kanto Pokedex ?'.

'149', said Leaf.

'A tough one. How many fire Pokemon are there in Kanto ?', asked Blaine.

This really was a tough question. Leaf looked confused.

'Charmander, Growlithe, Ponyta and Vulpix along with their evolutions. Then, Magmar, Flareon and Moltres. All of them add up to 12', said Leaf.

'Wow', said Blaine. 'You just have to battle me once'.

I felt ashamed of myself. Leaf battled Blaine and won easily. I didn't even see the match entirely but his Pokemons were really strong. I was afraid for my battle tomorrow.

Leaf held the Volcano Badge as we walked outside the Gym. On the shore was a Pokemon sitting on a rock.

I quickly pointed my Pokedex towards it.

'Slowbro, a Hermit Crab Pokémon. Spacing out is all it does. It turns back into Slowpoke, if it's tail, along with Shellder, breaks off', explained the Pokedex.

'What does that even mean ?', I said.

'It means that it de-evolves', said Sabrina, calmly'.

'De-evolves ?', said Leaf, surprised. 'How is that possible ?'.

'Slowpoke is that pink Pokemon and the thing on it's tail is Shellder, another Pokemon. Shellder is weak so it attaches itself on to Slowpoke's tail and Slowpoke gets some balance and is able to walk because of that', Sabrina explained.

'Increadible', said Leaf.

'So this way, both are getting an equal benefit', I said.

'Exactly', said Sabrina.

'See', said Leaf, pointing at the Slowbro.

The Shellder got off of it's tail and crawled away.

'Where is the Shellder going ?', asked Leaf.

'No idea', I said. 'See, Slowbro is Slowpoke now, it lied down'.

Leaf checked Slowpoke's Pokedex.

We spent the day exploring places in Cinnabar Island.

The next day, I was excited as I was going to get a new badge. So, I went towards the gym early in the morning. Leaf and Sabrina didn't wake up, so I was by myself.

I the way, I saw Slowpoke. I walked to the Pokémon in order to see where the Shellder was. Slowpoke was lying on the same rock we saw it yesterday.

I heard some voices from where the Slowpoke was. I saw someone's shadow on a rock.

I hid behind a really big stone so that the person wouldn't see me.

'God, I'm sitting here from five'o clock and still no Pokémon ?', said a familiar voice. 'I really wanted to catch this Slowpoke but no point, they don't do much'.

'Blue ?', I said, walking towards the old friend.

'Red, you woke up early. I thought you were gonna ride back to Fuschia in that ferry', said Blue.

'What are doing here ?', I asked.

'Fishing as you can see, today is my gym battle', he said.

'You also answered one question incorrectly ?', I asked.

'Also ? You mean you have your battle today, too ?', asked Blue.

'Yes', I said.

'And I thought I was ahead of you', said Blue.

'I'm not racing you', I said.

'But I am', said Blue. 'Yes, got something'.

He pulled the fishing rod and Pokemon came out of the water and stood on the ground.

Blue pointed his Pokedex towards it.

'A Tentacool, a Jellyfish Pokémon. It drifts through the sea searching for prey. It's poisonous tentacles break off sometimes, but after a while, they grow back', explained the Pokedex.

'Go Magneton', said Blue.

I pointed my Pokedex as Blue battled.

'Magneton, a Magnet Pokemon. Delicate equipment can malfunction in areas inhabited by Magneton, which send out mysterious electrical signals', explained the Pokedex.

Meanwhile, Blue caught the Tentacool.

Suddenly, a Shellder walked towards the Slowpoke and it became Slowbro again.

'Why didn't you catch the Slowpoke ?', I asked.

'Cause it's attached to this place, I made my Pokemon talk to it and translate it's language to me', said Blue.

'How can you understand your Pokemons completely ?', I asked. 'I can't even understand Pikachu completely'.

'Kadabra is a psychic Pokémon. It can communicate with me with that telekinesis or whatever', said Blue. 'This Slowpoke had an owner who abandoned it here. When he got alone, the Shellder made him a part of it's family and the Shellder visits him twice a day and make him a Slowbro so that he can roam around for a few hours'.

'That is very nice of you', I said.

'I'm not a bad guy, Red', said Blue. 'We don't get along that much doesn't mean I'm bad. I'm gonna go and battle the gym Leader'.

I stood there while Blue went to challenge Blaine. I looked at the sea and then the Slowbro, who tried to walk towards the market.

Pokemons could have that kind of friendship, I never knew.
