Chapter 37: The nightmares of the past

3rd Person POV

It was 3 AM.

Everyone had fallen asleep.

Only Chara hadn't fallen asleep yet.

Why?

She kept having these nightmares...

These nightmares about...

Her family dying and that she couldn't save them, no matter what. The dreams seemed so real too. As if they already happened.

But she knows that two dreams already happened, but Frisk's ability to SAVE and LOAD saved them. She just can't get over the look on their faces. A look of disappointment and fear.

'Maybe if I walk around the Castle, I'll forget it...' Chara thought. But her thoughts filled up with scenes of torture. She looked around to see if Frisk or the children were awake. Nothing. Good. Chara slowly got out of their bed and slowly left the room. She walked down the dark hallways that were lit up by the moonlight. She tried to get over those times of torture. But she can't. She just can't! She is scarred for life. She felt the scars on her right arm. 'Flowey, our plan had failed, hadn't it?' Chara thought, even if she knew the answer to that question. She heard something move. As soon as she turned around, it was gone. Huh. She continued walking when she heard some familiar footsteps.

It was just Kai.

"Mom, why are you up this late?" Kai whispered. "I just couldn't fall asleep, Kai." Chara answered, whispering. "Now, I think you should go sleep. It's late and you need to rest." Chara whispered, then gave Kai a slight push towards his room. Kai understood the gesture and went to his room, slightly worried about her.

She started thinking about her family. It relieved her mind of the scenes of torture it once had. She sighed, finally finding peace. But then, she heard something move again. She pretended not to look, only to see Flora enter. Her mind filled up with scenes of torture again. She couldn't control it. Every time she saw HER, it reminded her of HIM. The one who tortured her until death. The one who killed them multiple times. Her face started to lose its shape, her voice getting distorted as well. "I know that you ȧ̴͔̕r̸̺̍ě̶̡ ṫ̵͇̼̪̲̥͝h̵̲͕͗ē̸̠͉͖̺̺̍͆̓̅r̸̜͕̪̜͑̽è̷̱̯̣̪̈́, F̵̧̧̛̛̙̤̗̲̱͔̋͒̈́͌̾̅̌͛ ̸̫̪͎́̋̆̑̆́̽̀̑̕L̵̥͐̋̇̃̃̆̍̒ ̶̨̹̟̳̘̜̻͍͕̩͎̲͎̈́̃̒͋̂̐̈́̑́̈́̅O̴̢͛̔̉̓̋̓̚ ̷͎͔̤̰̤̻̭̩̒́͂͠ͅͅR̵̛̙̪̼̭̣̦͇͔̊͛̾͒͆͛̿̾̆̒̐ ̷̧̧̛̝͙̳̯̱̮̏͗͌̃́͛͝Ã̸̲̤̯͍̺͌̏̍͝ . " She said, scaring Flora.

She almost got a dagger to the eye because of that.

Flora kept trying to land a hit on Chara but Chara either dodged it or parried it with her knife. Chara managed to land a few hits on Flora. But Chara got distracted by the cries of 2 children and got hit in the head with the hilt of the dagger. Chara fell down and Flora positioned herself on top of Chara so she wouldn't be able to get up (What were you guys thinking?) . "Aha! So your weakness is your family!" Flora said. Chara struggled to get up. A door was slammed shut, which scared Flora and made Chara get the upper hand. She kicked her right in the jaw, before getting tackled and falling out of the hallway's large window.

[You already know what happened so I'm not going to repeat myself.]

"Chara, what was that?" Frisk asked. "I....don't know." Chara lied. She didn't want anyone to get worried just because she can't let go of the past. Frisk knew that Chara lied but he let it slide, for now. "I think we should go inside... I'm really tired..." Chara said. Kai climbed into her arms, and the Dreemurr family returned to their bedrooms.
