Where Jared was standing was a giant, black wolf with glowing silver eyes.
"Holy shit," I mutter, unable to take my eyes off him. He looks at me and gives me what I think is a grin, then turns to Haggar and lunges. She teleported, and, of course, I tried to attack.
This pointless use of energy kept going for several minutes before I looked at Jared desperately. After he was given a physical form, transforming was no longer effortless. I had to force myself to stay in wolf mode, but now I only had so much time before my energy was drained. Apparently Jared was the same way. He was panting, his attacks slower and less frequent.
Jared caught my eye, and we looked at each other, reading each other's mind.
I had noticed that whenever Haggar was about to teleport, she glanced in that direction momentarily, and she only did so every few minutes, meaning she had dodged some of our attacks without magic. She wasn't invincible after all. Jared seemed to be thinking along the same lines, and seeing the approval in my eyes, he lunged at Haggar, causing her to glance at the ledge and teleport there. I jumped on the ledge, just in time for her to appear there. I swiped at her before she knew what happened, and she fell, clutching her arm.
With what seemed like her last ounce of strength, she dissapeared. This time, she didn't reappear.

The mission wasn't a success. Even though we won the fight, we were still severely damaged, and hadn't liberated more than a few planets each. I stepped out of the pod as Jared landed, taking my helmet off and walking towards my room to get cleaned up.
"Jade!" Jared gasped. I turned and looked back at him.
"Yeah?"
"Y-Your hair!"
My hair? I turned to look at my shoulder length hair, but it was gone. I remember now. My head almost got blasted. Guess my hair didn't make it out. Jared walked over to me to inspect it.
"It's definitely singed, and it's uneven. We're probably going to have to cut it."
I nodded. I honestly didn't mind cutting my hair, how short was the question. Jared wordlessly led me to his room, took me into the bathroom, and pulled out a pair of scissors. I saw my reflection in the mirror. About half my hair had burned off, but the burned part was really short, leaving the rest of my hair untouched.
"How does a pixie cut sound to you?"

I looked at the mirror again, and truth be told, I was a little worried at how my hair had turned out. Jared had probably never cut anyone's hair, and I didn't want to be his guinea pig.
I was surprised. I didn't look bad, I actually thought I looked really cute! Jared smiled at his handiwork.
"I think I did a pretty good job."
"I look badass," I grinned, attempting to make fearsome faces, but it just made Jared laugh.
"As badass as a box of cinnamon rolls."
We both laughed, enjoying the moment. When we stopped, I looked up at Jared.
"Thank you." I said genuinely.
"No problem," he replied, and soft smile on his face. "I'm just going to miss your soft hair."
"Oh shush, it'll grow back."
"And then I'll braid it."
"Shouldn't I be saying that?" I giggled. "Maybe you should grow your hair out so that I can braid it!"
