I opened my eyes to see the blank, white ceiling above me. Swinging my feet off what was supposed to be my bed, I looked around the room for the millionth time. All there was was a hard metal board (my bed), a table with a matching chair, and a stall with a toilet inside. I sighed, flopping back down on the bed, and immediately regretting it.

After we left the Black lion, everyone was taken into custody. Pidge, Hunk, and Lance were released shortly after, they just needed their identity to be confirmed, and so they could've left. The thing is, they didn't. They refused to leave until everyone else was out, which both touched me and pissed me off at the same time. They shouldn't have to stay for us.

But because everyone else was at least part alien, we were taken as well. We weren't allowed to see each other, only the Garrison trio, who visited us every day.

To be honest, being kept in a small cell wasn't what was bothering me. It was the boredom. The Garrison had given me nothing to do, leaving me with my thoughts, which wandered over many things. I thought about everyone else, hoping they were okay, and how much I wanted to be with any of them. And, of course, I thought about Shiro. My mind kept flashing back to the memory of Adam sobbing over his dead body, the emotion of the moment coming back with it.

Pulling my knees to my chest, I tried not to cry for what seemed like the tenth time today. I just wanted to see my friends, any of them. I needed to know that everyone was okay.

The speaker above me spoke. "Test Subject number 291, a visitor has a request to see you. Do you accept?"

Trying to regain my composure, I sniffled. "Yes."

I rubbed my eyes, and Lance walked in, but we were still separated by the wall of thick glass that made me feel like I was some kind of zoo animal. I got up off the bed, running over to where Lance stood. He smiled, but his eyes were worried.

"Hey, sis, everything okay?"

"No, I'm not. I feel like I'm slowly going insane with nothing to do, Lance. I need to see the others."

"Listen, Jade," he said calmly. "Besides Shiro, everyone else is alive. They aren't happy, but they're alive and we are on Earth. We won the war, be happy about that."

"It's hard to be happy when you're locked up with nothing to do," I spat. Lance frowned.

"You don't think I'm miserable as well Jade? It kills me to see you, Kekini, everyone else locked up and unhappy."

I sighed in frustration. "Have they made the announcement that you all have come back?"

"No, they're trying to keep it all hushed up, but I don't know how long it will last," Lance said. "Sam is still trying to get Iverson to let you out, but he doesn't have much power over Iverson. The Garrison can't lock you up forever though, so just be at peace with that thought."

I groaned, "I don't want to think anymore, but it seems that's all I'm allowed to do."

"Actually, I brought you something," Lance said, pulling out a book from the bag he had over his shoulder. "It took some time to get it approved by the Commander, but I figured you'd like it."

He slipped the paperback through one of the vents in the glass. I took it from him, looking at the book, then back up at him, smiling.

"Thank you, Lance."

He smiled back. "No problem. I'm trying to see if the Garrison will at least let you talk to one of the others, so I'm not the only face you're seeing, even though mine is one of an angel," he joked.

"To Kekini," I retorted, chuckling. "But seriously, thank you."

"I'm always here for you," Lance said. We stood there for a moment before a voice came on the speaker again.
