(Damn I have a lot of chapters. I just wanted to say that all of your reads and votes and comments mean the absolute world to me and I couldn't ask for better readers.)
"Okay, so here the hot water bottle," I said, handing Matt the red rubber pouch. He pulled the bed sheets down and his night shirt up and laid it across his stomach. He let out a gigantic sigh.
"Does that feel better?" I asked.
"So much..."
"Do you want some soup?" I asked.
"No. Just my sports drink," he said. I tossed him the red drink and continued to warm up my dinner: frozen pizza.
"This is what'll be like in the apartment," Matt said.
"Yeah..."
"Hey, Essie, can you pull up a chair here?" He said. I cocked one eyebrow.
"Why?"
"I wanna talk to you," he said. I wiped my hands on a paper towel and brought a wooden chair to the side of the bed. Matt slid his palm underneath my fingers and squeezed.
"What is it? Do you feel worse?"
"No. I wanted to see if we could talk about something."
"What, Matt?"
"Marriage."
"What about it?"
"When would you want to get married?"
"Matt..."
"No. I'm so serious. I want to settle down with you as soon as possible."
"I don't know-"
"When can I propose to you?"
"When we're settled in New York, okay? When I have a steady job," I said. Matt squeezed my hand.
"I think we should get married in two years," he said.
"I think we should when we have a steady income," I said.
"Do you seriously want to get married?"
"Yes! I do, I truly do! It's just I'm trying to think logically, okay, sweetheart?" I said.
"But your father gave me his blessing."
"Good. So in two years, you can ask me then."
"But I want to marry you now! I want children! I want to have more than just your birthday circled on a calendar!"
"Matt, the phrase is really overpaid but I really really really love you. I'm in love with you,"I said.
"Why are you so eager to get married?" I asked.
"Because I feel it's that time."
"We've only dated a year and a half."
"And it's been the most chaotic, eventual, dramatic year and a half of my life and Id rather have a chaotic marriage with you than a boring Hollywood career. Please promise that two years from now we can get married," he said.
"Okay," I said, standing up to kiss him cheek and then his lips.
"You need those mints now?"
"Yeah. And some of that soup."
