Jessica

"Please, Mom?" I begged. She sighed. "Grams, Pops please tell her to let me have my phone back," I pleaded.

"What did you do?" Grams asked. "I was out past curfew and I've been grounded for over a month," I said, irritated.

"Oh, come on, Vivian," Pops swatted the air as he spoke to Mom. "She's just a kid, you've been out past curfew many times," Grams said. "No," Mom denied.

"Liar," Pops pointed. Mom sighed, smiling. "Okay, fine. After school. You're getting late," she said.

"Yay! Thank you," I quickly said, grabbing my keys before rushing out he door.

I drove to Austin's house, just in time to see him walk down the steps of his porch. As he came to the passengers seat, he waved his phone in the air, smiling.

"What the hell, I had to get my grandparents to convince my Mom to give me mine back," I complained, as he sat down. "Did you?" He asked. "No," I pouted, starting to drive.

"When are you?" He asked. "After school, apparently," I said.

He nodded, quieting down.

"What's wrong?" I glanced at him. "Fucking.. Caleb was being an ass last night," he rubbed his face. "What happened?" I asked.

He shook his head. "We were talking about relationships and shit and Becca brought herself up so Caleb was all you don't wanna end up like Austin, and made everyone suspicious about me," he explained. "What does he mean.. end up like you?" I reluctantly asked.

From the corner of my eye, I saw him softly look at me.

"Oh," I said.

He reached over, grabbing my hand. "Your hands are frozen," he changed the subject. "I know, it's cold as hell," I went with it.

We shared a few seconds of eye contact at a red light, before I focused on the road again.

"You're so cute," I smiled. "I didn't even do anything," he shrugged. "You didn't have to," I said. "Are you flirting with me?" He asked, making it impossible not to laugh.

"No," I sarcastically said, shaking my head. "Are you deadass down for Becca's project?" He asked. "Yeah, why?" I asked.

"She wants me to get a picture and I wasn't sure if you two were being for real or not," he said. "We are," I nodded. "The only drawing I have of myself is the one those street artists do in he city. The ones where they make your head bigger than the city itself," I smiled. "I have one of those too," he laughed.

Not ten minutes had past in first period, before Austin and I were called to Mr. P's office.

"Maybe it's good news this time," I said. "We haven't done anything to get bad news.. so it should," Austin agreed.

Once we got there, he allowed us in and sat across from us at his desk.

"You both did a stellar performance last night," he started. "Thank you," we synced. "As for your detentions.. finish up today and tomorrow, and you're done," he said.

As much as I wanted to sigh in relief, I held it in. "Thank you," I nodded. "That's all. Thank you," he said.

When we were a safe distance away from his office, I grabbed Austin's shoulder and jumped a few times as we walked.

"What are you doing?" He laughed. "We're fucking free," I smiled. "Once you get ungrounded- yeah," he looked at me. "Technically, I am," I said. "I just don't have my phone," I added.

"And when you have it, text me," he said, reaching for the door to his classroom. "I will," I nodded, as he disappeared.

I walked back to class, and went to my seat. My mood had changed for the entire day. I felt like a million pounds were lifted off my shoulders. Even with that, there was still something picking at me. I didn't let it ruin my day, though, so I sucked it up.

When I arrived home, I practically pranced to Mom's room, asking for my phone.

"You're only getting it because your grandparents are here," she said. "I know," I nodded, reaching for it. She retreated her hand. "If you get in trouble like that again, you're-"

"Grounded for life, okay, I won't," I finished her sentence. She sighed, before handing it to me.

"Thank you," I smiled. "What about my laptop? I actually need that for school," I mentioned. She sighed again, reaching for that as well, handing it to me.

"Thank you," I said, before rushing to my room. I put my laptop down and turned my phone off. After almost two months, my notifications filled up with different things.

Texts, media, calls, etc. Finally, I'd be able to get back to everyone. Before that though, I texted Austin.

Me
Baaaaaaabe

Before he even responded, he started FaceTiming me.

"Hi," I smiled, softly laughing at his immediate call. "How do I work this?" He sarcastically asked. "I'm still trying to figure that out," I played along.

"Are you officially ungrounded?" Austin asked. "I guess, are you?" I asked. "Sunday," he sighed. "Better than waiting the whole two months," I shrugged. He nodded.

I started looking through my notifications, scrolling through texts.

Sorry, my phone was taken away

Seemed to be my go to response for most of them.

I had texts from Kyle and Nikki, those of which I actually bothered to properly respond to.

Kyle

After a few days, he stopped texting though.

From Austin's side of the call, I heard him vaguely talking to someone, before muting. When he came back, he spoke again.

"Jess, I'll call you later, I have to help my Dad with something," he said. "Okay. Bye," I smiled. "Bye."
