It took lots of convincing, but I was able to get Nikki's parents to allow her to stay a few extra days. Lily had to go, sadly, and her parents as well. So, my house was back to normal besides Nikki still being here.

I still didn't ask my parents to go to the party because I was afraid of what they would argue with me for. Luckily though, Noah stepped in without even realizing.

"I'm going to a party later tonight," he mentioned. I looked at Nikki as soon as he said that, then Noah, and finally my parents.

"Take us with you," I said. He looked at me like I was crazy. "No," he shook his head. "Yes," Mom corrected him.

Dad and I still weren't on the best terms regarding speaking. I was getting over it but he hadn't properly apologized, so I was waiting for it.

"Mom," he complained. "Take her with you, it won't kill you," she argued.

A smirk plastered on my lips as he eyed me across the table in annoyance.

"We're not going to your party," I told Noah, once we finished dinner. "Where am I taking you, then?"

I sighed, thinking of the two options. "You could either take us to the party itself, or drop us off at Austin's, and we can go with him," I explained, as he sipped his water.

"I'll take you to the party."

He spoke out of precaution. Noah didn't despise Austin, luckily. He'd rather take me anywhere late at night than have any of my friends do it, which wasn't so bad.

I smiled at his agreement before going back to my room.

"We're going to a party," I happily announced to Nikki.

She smiled and took her eyes off of her phone screen.

"Why are you taking me, though?" She asked. "Because," I said. "It'll be fun."

Austin

I finished cleaning up after dinner, going to my bedroom to see that Jess texted me.

Ok

The hours leading up to my departure fell boring, as I flipped through TV channels and the same social media apps.

Finally, I decided to get ready. Reaching my closet, I looked through my options.

Black jeans, and a Nike hoodie. I fixed my hair to the usual style, and slipped on a pair of sneakers.

Once I finished, I collapsed on my bed and called Jess.

"Hey," she answered. "Hi baby, did you leave yet?" I asked. "I'm about to head to the car now," she said. "Okay, I'll see you there."

I put my phone in my pocket and went to my parents room, letting them know that I was leaving. Grabbing my car keys, I stepped out into the cold air.

The drive wasn't long but was filled with tons of traffic. Luckily there was a parking lot to the building, so I didn't have to waste more time.

Taking the elevator up, I walked in the direction of the music until I reached the right room.

It wasn't crazy. There were a lot of people, but this was more civilized than the average high school party.

A couple minutes had passed as I began talking to the various people around. The TV was on, already showing the countdown.

The huge window in the living room looked over the city, giving us a view of the ball that would drop at midnight. You could see hundreds of people surrounding the neighboring blocks.

I was making my way to the snack table, when I caught Jess and Nikki walking into the apartment.

I put my hand up to grab her attention, which I luckily did. Not sure of where she pointed, it caused Nikki to walk in another direction.

"Hey," she smiled, lightly hugging me. "Where did Nikki go?" I asked.

She gave me a sly smile. "She's with the guy she likes."

A laugh escaped my mouth, knowing she snuck her way around in order to make that happen.

"Anyway, you can see the ball from the window, let me show you," I said, grabbing her hand.

"Damn, there's so many people," she said, looking down.

As she looked, her grip on my arm gradually tightened.

"Are you afraid of heights?" I asked, holding onto her waist. "Not horrifically," she backed up. "A little."
I thought that her reaction to the height was adorable. She would've grabbed onto anyone, I'm sure, but it was different. I wouldn't be able to explain it, but it was something she never really did.

She turned around, scanning the room for Nikki and the other guy. Once her eyes landed on them talking and smiling, she relaxed into the environment.
