Austin

I wasn't mad that she smoked, I was mad that she did it without me. We all knew Jess didn't have control. And especially now, with everything going on..

I knew without a doubt that she'd used the whole pod of oil. She was so high, she even had the munchies.

"Austin, get off your phone," Mom said. "I will, I'm sorry, give me a sec," I said, watching the three dots turn into a message.

Jess
Are you mad at me

Me
Not as much as I should be

Jess
What does that mean

Me
I'll call you later. I have to go

Not waiting for a response, I put my phone into my pocket and walked towards the destination.

As we headed down to the rental car, Caleb, Becca and I squished into the back.

"I hate the middle," Becca complained. "You're the smallest," Caleb and I synched, making her roll her eyes.

A few minutes after we got to the place, I couldn't help but look at the gorgeous view. The water was so blue and the sand was so clean. It was so pretty.

Becca, Caleb and I all had the same reaction, pulling out our phones to take a picture. Once I did, I saw another text from Jess.

Jess
Can you please tell me you're not mad at me

Jess
Please don't be

Jess
Text me later

I sighed, closing the messages, and opening the camera. The second I took a single photo, Dad came over to us.

"Alright, phones in here," he opened a bag. "What? We were just taking pictures," Caleb defended. "We'll use the family camera for pictures. Put your phones in here," he shook his head.

We all shared an annoyed glance, before dropping our phones into the bag.

"Alright, let's take a few and then we'll get ready," he zipped the bag, then motioned us over to another spot.

We stood side by side when Dad found a person to hand the camera to. After forcing a few smiles, he finally let us go.

"Alright, let's go. Who's first?" Dad asked. "Me!" The three of us synched.

"I'm the middle child," I argued, smiling. "I'm youngest," Becca retorted. "I'm older," Caleb put his hand on his chest.

"Trick question, it's me," Dad chuckled, before running towards the set up. Just before we took off behind him, I heard Mom faintly laugh.

It made me happy.. after such a long time, we were having a good family vacation. For the most part..

Jessica

I kept texting Austin, but he wasn't responding to me. After a few minutes, my messages weren't even showing the "delivered" sign. I sighed and gave up, setting my phone down.

Even using a whole ass cart with the pen wasn't enough to help me with this one. He knew everything that was going on.. almost.

I looked down as my phone started vibrating. Looking at the photo appear, it was Kayla.

"Hey," I forced a smile, watching her video load up. "Hey, I'm bored," Kayla sighed.

"I'm assuming Sofia isn't available?" I asked. "Great guess," she smiled. "What's going on with that? You haven't updated me in a while," I said.

She sighed. "I don't know, to be honest. After the.. whole party thing, we kept talking, but nothing else really happened," she said.

"Make the first move. Show your dominance," my words gradually turned to an accent, as I spoke dramatically.

"Soon," she softly laughed. "How high are you?" She asked. "Shh!" I quickly said. "I don't have earbuds in," I said. "Sorry," she smiled.

"Answer the question," she added. I sighed, Austin making me feel disappointed. "I used the whole thing," I complained, showing her the pen. "Jess! In one day?" She asked.

"In a fucking hour. I didn't even realize," I admit. "Jessica Reign," she tried to sound strict.

"I'd be scared if you used my full name," I smiled. "Jessica Marie Reign," she repeated in the same tone.

"Stop, I know," I softly laughed, closing my eyes.

"Have you talked to Austin?" She asked. "Yeah, I uh, I just finished talking to him," I partially lied.

"How's the Bahamas?" She asked. "I'm assuming it's nice," I yawned. "He's water skiing," I said, with a jealous tone.

"Wow, must be-" she stopped, lifting her head. I could hear voices in the background of the call, before she sighed.

"I'll call you back, I gotta do something," she said. "Alright, bye," I smiled, waving before ending the call.

Oddly, even thought we talked for all of five minutes, I felt somewhat better about it.

I opened my messages with Austin, sending him another one.

Me
I love you

After a few seconds, when the "delivered" sign didn't show up, I put my phone down, and closed my eyes.

Eventually, I fell asleep.
