Chapter 17

We arrive at the prom and Shawn takes a deep breath as we both walk in, not holding hands, not even touching.
We walk in and straight away the tension rises.
CHERYLS POV:
I stand in the centre of the floor with my two best friends, Jess and Lottie. I'm wearing an elegant red dress that flows to my knees. I watch as Shawn and Violet walk in and I can tell how much they don't want to be here right now.
"I'm in the mood for chaos" I say to Lottie and Jess smiling. Does Violet really think she can get away with threatening me?
VIOLETS POV:
"Hey guys" I say to Tom, Grayson and Lily as me and Shawn walk over. "Hey" Grayson reply's a little shocked, I guess he wasn't expecting me and Shawn to be here tonight, together. A part of me couldn't help but think Grayson looked disappointed as we all spoke. "So it's prom king and Queen tonight, who do you think will get it?" Lily asks. "I have no idea, I haven't really thought about it" I say honestly. It's super awkward because as time goes by at prom, me and Shawn are becoming more distant, we haven't spoken at prom yet, we haven't touched or kissed at all. I can't take this anymore. I walk over to him.
"Shawn - "
"Hello ladies and gentlemen! I hope you are all having an amazing evening!" One of the teachers say. "I think it's time to crown prom king and queen?!" He adds. He reaches his hand into two boxes, I guess ones for boys and ones for girls. "Prom King and Queen are..... Violet Watson and Shawn Mendes!" He says happily. My heart sank. I awkwardly look over at Shawn and he shares a smile. We both walk into the middle of the floor into the spot light to have our first dance together as prom king and queen. He places his hands on my waist but it was different, it didn't send shivers down my spine or give me butterflies, I felt nothing and I hate myself for it.
We begin to slow dance to thinking out loud by Ed Sheeran but it stops. "I think it's beautiful that Shawn and Violet and prom king and queen! Such a lovely couple that we all love and aspire to be! But I don't, they have secrets, Shawn kissed another girl last Saturday when he played seven minutes in heaven but Shawn exceeded the seven minutes and it was more like an hour? He didn't stop, I don't think that's loyal, you deserve better Violet" Cheryl says with a smirk. I look at Shawn and he is staring at Cheryl but then he looks at me.
