Chapter 21

Virat's POV: The present time...

Oh sh*t! What did I just do? I...I am so freaking stupid! I just said that I am going to propose to Shagun! Haiii mummy (oh mom!) I am so scared! What if I screw up! HELLP MEEEEE! Ok....okay....we got this! We can't really go back now, otherwise we will never be able to propose to her again! Okay...think....think....

Shagun started at me with open eyes and then immediately looked down, I also sat there thinking of what to do.....
After thinking for a few minutes I got a plan. I quickly held Shagun's hand and brought her to the area near the lake, where the willow trees were. I then stopped and gazed into her brown eyes...needed some confidence....

I took a few steps back and stood there....I didn't get into the standard proposing position......Shagun was staring at me with a confused look, maybe she was thinking 'weren't you going to propose to me?' Okay now time for the hard part.....speaking

"Look Shagun, I know you are not into speeches, I know you would just fall asleep here if I told you about how lucky I am that you came into my life, that I loved you since grade 8, that I love you a lot...plus you already know all the basic facts, so there isn't a point of me wasting our time here speaking nonsense that we both would get tired of listening. Anyways.....the point is....I love you!" I said with a smile... Shagun looked at me with this odd expression...she was confused on what was happening....
"Shagun?" I asked
"Shagun! Say something! Sha-
"I love you too!" Shagun confessed. We both stared at each other like.....'now what?'

Suddenly Shagun hugged me...no warning! None at all! Just straight up hugged me! So I hugged her back. The feeling of her being so close to me felt amazing! I could stay like this forever! Just me and Shagun in this serene environment.

After a few minutes Shagun looked up at me and said...

"We should go home now"
"We should, I don't want to though!" I said like a desperate soul
"Me neither, but our families might get worried...it is already 10:00pm." Shagun said quietly.

So we then sat inside my car and I started driving towards Shagun's house...

"Virat?" Shagun said
"Yes Shagun?" I answered
"Thank you!" Shagun said
"For what?" I asked confusedly
"Thank you for taking the first step and confessing! I loved you for such a long time but I realized when we had that moment in the park, then there was today when you confessed! I love you so much! Also thank you for not proposing in the typical way, you know the speech and all! I wouldn't have been able to handle it!" Shagun said with a chuckle
"No problem, I wouldn't have had the patience to say an entire speech in the first place!" I joked

We laughed for a bit and then Shagun said....

"Virat, when will we tell everyone about us?"
"Well....we will surely tell them soon! Not now though, I want to enjoy the fun of having a secret girlfriend!" I said jokingly.... not that the fact that if my mummy figured out I have a girlfriend would end up in my murder and then instant wedding....no not at all...what are you taking about?
"Okay...but what if they find out?" Shagun asked with fear
"Then let them find out! They will know one day or another anyways! Plus if they do find out, I will have a plan so we both won't get screwed! Guddi, you don't really know what my potential is. I can make something up on the spot! Don't worry!" I reassured....fake reassurance is no good!
"Okay...if you say so. It would be fun right! Having a secret relationship, hiding from everyone's prying eyes, lying about the late night returns! This will be sooo fun!" Shagun squealed

Soon we reached Shagun's house and we both bid each other goodbye. I then drove off to my house...

I knocked on the door to my house, just in case anyone was awake...otherwise I would have to climb the tree outside my window and jump in!

"Nalayak kya hato tu? (You scoundrel where were you?)" my darling mummy asked as she pulled my ear
"Sorry mummy rasta ma Sha...Sha....Sharad madigaiylo etle modu thyu ( I met Sha...Sha...Sharad on the way here so I was late)" I lied...what was I supposed to say 'oh mummy I proposed to Shagun that's why I'm late' my mom would have killed me then and there....and who the hell is Sharad? I haven't met a single person who is names Sharad!
"Sharad kaun? (Who is Sharad?)" Mummy darling asked
"Maro friend...saathe college ma hata! (My friend...we were in the same college)" I lied once more...one more question and I'll have a hat trick!
"To phone na karaye? (Then couldn't you have called)" my mummy jaan asked....he shoots....will he score I thought before opening my mouth
"Phone dead hato. (My phone was dead.)" I lied....and he scores! Virat Sharma has pulled off a hat trick!
Suddenly I got a message from Shagun.....Hey Virat! I actually lied to my family! Thanks to you! Good night....I love you. I smiled inwardly....Shagun actually lied to her family! Wow! Oh wait....why...ughhh Shagun one text is going to kill me!
"Hamna message karvano hato anne? (She had to message me right now)" I murmured...let's hope mummy didn't hear the 'ding' of the message

"Virat!" And we are dead...mummy heard
"Yes mummy" I said
"Phone dead hato ne? (Your phone was dead right?)" mummy questioned....I swear we don't even as these many questions during a criminal interrogation!
"Ha mummy! Gadi ma charge karyo....charger che gadi ma.(yes mummy! I charged it in the car...there is a charger in the car)" I said defensively
"To phone na karaye? (Then couldn't you have called?)" mummy questioned.....chali ani vaat phari thi! (there she goes again!)
"Taro phone ayo hase jyaare hun Sharad ni saathe hato. Tyare maro phone dead hato. Gadi ma besine main phone charge karyo! (You might have called when I was with Sharad. My phone was dead at the time. When I sat in the car I charged my phone!)" I explained
"Veena! Kem mara chokra ni class le che! (Veena! Why are you troubling my son!)" My darling...my saviour...my Anju said
"Mummyji! Maa chu aani! Chokro phone na upade to tension to thaaye ke nai! (Mother-in-law! I'm his mother! If my son doesn't pick up his phone will I not get tensed?)" Mummy protested...this is too much...I want to sleep now!
"Bas karo taame loko! Mane suva javu che! (Stop it you guys! I want to go to sleep!)" I said
"Okay beta, next time phone charged rakhvano! Khavu nathi? (Okay dear, next time keep your phone charged! Don't you want to eat?)" My mummy asked
"Na Sharad ni saathe sandwich kaadhu. Jai Shri Krishna! (No, I ate a sandwich with Sharad. Goodnight!)" I lied and went to my room to sleep.

Soon after I had changed into my nightwear I heard a knock on my door.

"Andar aavo! (Come in!)" I yelled, Anju then came and sat on my bed
"Saache ma kya hato tu? (Where were you really?)" Anju asked.....I can't lie to her! I'll tell her!
"Ba...Anju...hun...hun...Shagun ni saathe hato...aaje main- (grandma....Anju....I...I...was with Shagun...today I-)
"Eene propose karyu? (You proposed to her?)" Anju asked while interrupting me.

I looked down and ran my fingers through my hair and slowly nodded

"Su kidhu eene? (What did she say?)" Anju asked me while bringing my head up
"Shagun pan mane love kare che! (Shagun also loves me!)" I said while keeping my head in her lap.
"Chalo saaru thyu! Have hun tara mummy pappa ne tari ane Shagun ni laghaan ni vaat karish! (Okay good! Now I will talk to your parents about yours and Shagun's marriage!)" Anju said. Noooo this can't happen! Our plan will fail! I quickly sat up and said

"Naa! Eevu na karti! Thodi vaar amne boyfriend ane girlfriend ni jem rehva de! Ane a vaat ke main ane Shagun ek bija ne love kariye che taari paase rakhje! Mummy paapa ne hun ane Shagun time aavse tyaare kaisu! (Noo! Don't do that! Let us be boyfriend and girlfriend for a while! Keep the fact that me and Shagun love each other to yourself! Me and Shagun will tell then when the time comes!)"

"Okay dikra! Nai kau, have ke...te propose kevi reete karyu? (Okay dear! I won't tell them, now tell me...how did you propose?)" Anju asked with a smile

So I told her about what happened from the start of the day and how Shagun apologized to Akash, I told her about Muskaan's phone call...and no I didn't skip any detail! Then I told her about the romantic atmosphere...and finally about my simple proposal.

Anju was really happy for me! She blessed me and Shagun saying that may you always be happy! What else could I want? Everything was perfect....with that thought..I put an end to my day by drifting off into the most peaceful sleep I had in years!
