Fourteen and a half years later.
Bold is the wolves thoughts.
Italics are peoples thoughts.
I ran away from them as fast as I could. They still caught up with me. One of them grabbed my hair. It forced me to stop. Why can't you guys leave me alone? I thought. "Hey look. It's the mute weakling. Back for more?" I hated these two. I gave a weak growl. They took a step back and laughed. The blonde one, Eric, took two steps forward and raised his hand.
He slapped me across the face. My black hair covered my eyes. They were different than everyone else's. I wasn't the only one in the pack with blue eyes. But mine were two colors at once. Both of them were half dark blue and half light blue. That wasn't the only thing that got me bullied. I didn't have a family.
Which meant that I had nobody to stick up for me. I never told anyone this. I hardly ever said a word to anyone. The other one, Evan, took a step forward. He used his knife to cut my arm. He grabbed it and ran the knife across it. I pulled my arm back and ended up having the knife drove in deeper.
"Maybe next time, you won't run. Look at how scared she looks." Eric laughed. A sharp growl came from behind me. I turned to see a burgundy wolf walking slowly towards us, growling steadily. Evan and Eric yelped and shifted. Their brown wolves ran off. The larger wolf turned towards me. I flinched away and closed my eyes. I felt something grab my good arm. I looked up to see a boy with red-brown hair. His eyes matched the color of his wolves fur.
He pulled me up to my feet. I flinched at the dull pain in my leg and lost my balance. He caught me and lifted me up in his arms. I tried to get out but failed. I huffed as he ran towards the pack hospital. He finally stood me on my own feet once we were in a room. He set me on the white bed and took a step back. He was smiling. I turned my head away. "Is it true what they say about you? That your a mute?" His voice was both hurt and concerned. I turned my head back to him.
I sighed. "My names Ash. Can you tell me yours?" After I didn't say anything he sighed and started towards the door. I took a deep breath. I almost never spoke to anyone, except to the Alpha and Luna. "Storm." The boy, Ash, took his hand away from the doorknob. He turned and said "What?" His voice was amused and confused. I took a deep breath. "You asked for my name. It's Storm." My voice didn't grow quite like it usually did. I watched him take a step forward.
He put his hand on my good one. "Why were those two hurting you?" He sounded mad. I shook my head. "They always do. It's not like I can't stop them. No ones ever helped me either before..." I let my voice trail off. I grabbed my necklace, hidden under my shirt, and closed my eyes with the charm in my hand. I heard someone clear their throat. I opened my eyes to see the doctor standing in the doorway. He stepped in the room.
Ash took a step aside. He wasn't smiling anymore. The doctor asked some simple questions. I answered them just as simply. When it came for him to ask about my arm, Ash answered for me. "She was being chased and harassed by two boys. I scared them off and brought her here. Her arm was cut pretty bad and she couldn't stand." He smiled as the doctor turned back to me. I could have stood. The doctor asked if what Ash said was true. I answered, "For the most part."
The doctor then asked if I knew the names of the two boys in question. I told him their names. He shook his head. Turned out Eric and Evan were always getting into trouble. He left the room and came back a few minutes later with bandages. He cleaned the mark on my arm. After the bandages were secure, the doctor dismissed me and Ash. Saying try not to fall and my leg should stop feeling so sore and heal. Ash followed me from the pack hospital to the small lake. I watched the tree line.
"You don't have to watch me anymore. I can take care of myself." My voice was harsher than I wanted. Ash didn't go away, instead he sat down next to me. "It didn't seem like it. But why would you have nobody to help you? Don't you have friends or other family?" His voice was sincere. I sighed and shook my head. "I don't have family, I was told I was born into the pack but I don't think I was. As for friends. You saw for yourself. I don't have any." I looked out back to the trees.
I saw a pair of yellow eyes staring back. Ash put his hand on mine. "That's not true. I'm your friend. We can help each other." I looked into his eyes. The sun was just about ready to set. I smiled, a real smile. Ash stated that we should get to the pack house before the sunset. We walked over. Turned out that Ash was a few doors down from my room on the first floor. We said our goodbyes.
I held my necklace and sat on the bed. "I know your out there," I whispered. "Can't you come and find me already?" I laid down on the bed and stared at the ceiling. I waited for the pack house to become completely silent to leave. I tried to get out as much as I can. I felt guilty for having half lied to Ash. I didn't have friends in the pack. But I did have friends. I snuck out the main door and behind the building. I went around and found the other side of the lake.
I found the small clearing. I waited for the yellow eyes to come back. Luna walked out slowly. I sat down and ran my hand over her rough fur. I missed you too. I thought. Luna's fur was dark grey. Her eyes were the only thing that gave her away at night. It was a good thing that I taught her to stay hidden. If she couldn't hide, the pack guards would have slaughtered her by now.
