Leaving

Alpha Jace had come from behind the guards.  When he came, the group almost silently dispersed.  I couldn't stop blushing.  I was so embarrassed.  Not only I had just gotten my first kiss, but it was with my mate, which I wasn't susposed to have yet, and in front of almost all of the River Pack!

Now Jacob and I were sitting in Alpha Jaces office, on the couch next to each other.  "So, Jacob, where exactly have you been for almost a month?"  He asked for the second time still using the same stern voice.  I looked at Jacob out of the corner of my eye again.  He was sitting with his back straight.  The air was tense.  I heard a sharp intake of breath.

"Well, when Storm and I came here the first day, after she went into the pack house.  I heard something moving in the forest.  I shifted to check it out.  I came across four or five rouges in a camp.  When I tried to get them away, one of them bit me.  They had silver implants.  I had managed to kill one of them but after I knew I needed to get away.  They gave chase.  That was when Storms brother and father stepped in.  They stopped the rouges and saved my life.  I blacked out.  When I woke up, I was in their makeshift camp.  My parents were there as well.  I felt that Storm was in trouble.  I ran here to help."  His voice never quavered, not even once.

Alpha Jace looked to me.  "Storm?  What were you hoping to accomplish by jumping out of the bathroom window on the forth floor?"  His voice was slightly amused.  I blushed again.  I looked down and used my hair to cover my face.  "Well... I wanted to find Jacob.  I wasn't going to do that just staying here!  I needed to find him.  I was only going to leap to the second floor then the ground.  I was ready to go, until the guards startled me.  I slipped and missed the second floor bathroom.  I was lucky that Jacob got there when he did, I might have not been able to survive if he didn't catch me when he did..."  I didn't want to think about what would have happened.

I kept my head down.  There was a long silence.  "Well... considering what happened... I actually have no choice but to send Storm to another pack."  Alpha Jace said.  I looked up.  "What?"  Jacob and I said at the same time.  I felt tears prick my eyes.  "Why?"  Jacob said, half growling.  Alpha Jace stood up.

"Well, if you two remember, the mateing age is seventeen.  Since you, Jacob are already seventeen, there's no reason for you to leave.  But since Storm is fifteen, I have to send her to another pack until she reaches the matting age.  It's not my choice, it's just the rules.  I'll talk to one of the farther packs to set up the arrangements.  Until then, I suggest that you pack Storm.  Jacob you can help, but don't make too much noise because some of the warriors are sleeping before their patrol."  Alpha Jace left.  The tears overflowed and spilled out.  I leaned forward and put my face in my hands.

Jacob growled.  I could remember the one chapter I had read on mates.  It said that if two people that were mates but they both weren't of the right age, they would be separated until the age was reached.  I stood up and walked to the stairs.  Jacob followed silently.  When we reached mine and Kathy's room, I opened the door slowly.  Nobody was there.

I walked in the room and sat on the second bed.  I grabbed a bag and started to throw some clothes in to it.  Soon the bag was full, the only girly thing was a brand new dress.

I had packed a pair of sneakers, slippers being the only other shoes.  The bag itself was black.  And stripes were black but had little white stars.  I had stopped crying a few minutes ago.  Jacob had told me he wouldn't let Alpha Jace take me away.  I told him back that he couldn't.  If Jacob tried to defy Alpha Jace, he could get in serious trouble. He wasn't happy but there were no complaints.

Now I was holding the bag and leaning into Jacob's side.  He had his arm over me.  We had been sitting like this for five minutes, maybe longer.  A knock on the door demanded an answer.  When I opened the door, one of the guards told me it was time to go.  I followed him outside were a white car was waiting.  I didn't know where or which pack I was being brought to. The whole pack was outside waiting.

I wanted to run and hide but I knew that I shouldn't.  Jacob had mirrored my every step.  Now I turned to him.  My vision was blurred.  Jacob placed something in my hand.  It was the moon shaped clip he had given me when we first met.  I smiled and threw my arms around him.  I felt him arms wrap around me too.  Soon, though, I really had to get in the car.  I looked out the window as the car drove off.  Jacob stood there until the car drove out of the driveway.

He shifted and ran after the car, slowly.  I watched his russet wolf slow to a jog.  Jacob howled.  It was the howl that was used when the pack was saying goodbye to someone that was lost.  I wished there was enough room so I could shift and howl back but there wasn't enough room.  I kept my eyes out the window.  The huge russet wolf had disappeared.  I heard the howl again.

The tears, which had threatened to fall, finally did.  I turned away from the window.  Sliding into the seat, I let the tears fall.  It was nightfall before the car stopped, and only to refill the gas tank.
