Storm's POV

My parents tried to help me understand. I really wanted to tell them "I get it," but I just couldn't. How was I one of the first female alphas? It didn't make sense. This had to be some joke, right? Sadly, it wasn't a joke. They're serious Storm. Sapphire told me. I know... I replied. I just wanted to get back to my new normal, and pretend I didn't find any of this out. I did go back to the room I shared with Sarah.

She was just as confused as I was. Sarah was an alpha only because her mate died, and there was no other alpha bloodline to take over the Mist pack. But for me to have been born an alpha? It was unheard of. But Sarah eventually convinced me to go to sleep. Sapphire told me it was going to be fine.

So when the next day came, everyone in the Mist pack could tell something serious had changed during the night. "Are you okay, Storm?" Eve asked softly. I nodded. "Just waiting to get this over with." I replied shortly.

PJ came over. He did ease off his harsh comments and demeanor. "Good luck out there, you'll need it." He said, walking away.  A little is a good first step, that's what I kept telling myself that is. He'll really lay off when you beat him, right Storm? Sapphire assured me. I nodded, still walking to the training grounds. I'm sure he will Saph. I replied mentally.

Eva must have noticed I was talking to my wolf, because she nudged my arm with her shoulder. Oh, PJ and my parents were coming. Guess I didn't notice. Sarah and the others met up with my parents. "Last battle for now. Your warriors really improved. Guess that old legend of the Moon pack's mirroring abilities aren't so much of a legend after all." Sarah said lightly.

Mirroring abilities?  "The Moon pack was told to have the ability to copy their opponent's moves, and mirror them. But the Blood Moon pack never uses actual fighting techniques in battle, making them hard to read." Cameron explained softly. I nodded. While the rest of the Moon pack made their way to the training grounds, I talked to Sarah and Eva about how I could use my real speed to trick PJ in the battle.

A shifter has to have more than one trick up his or her sleeves if they want to win a battle, real or not. There had been little 'real' fighting. Nobody ever got more than a few scratches. But I had a feeling PJ wasn't exactly going to fight the fair way. Something about him just said I'll fight dirty if I have to.' I just didn't trust him.

By the time everything was ready, I was feeling pretty nervous. "It's okay to be nervous Storm, everyone is." Sam tried assuring me. I knew he was right, they all were. But something just didn't feel quite right. I couldn't place what it was, but I had a feeling something was going to go wrong... very wrong. I shook the feeling off, maybe it was just my nerves.

I was fighting the beta of my birth pack after all, and he clearly wasn't going to hold anything back. I walked into the circle everyone had to stand in. If I knocked PJ out, I won. But the same thing went if he knocked me out. Only my father could call the match off. But it had to be for a very good reason

Everyone knew that. Sarah took her place between us. "Are both parties are ready?" She asked, looking at PJ. He nodded, growling softly. I took a breath. "Yes." I said softly. PJ didn't take any time to attack. As soon as Sarah said 'begin' he aimed a punch to my chest. I took a few steps back. Good hit PJ. My turn. I feinted punching his shoulder, opting to kick his gut instead. PJ recolied, growling harshly.

We traded hits for about ten whole minutes. Shoulder, leg, jaw, shin, chest. Anywhere a hit would cause some damage. I was getting tired, but I couldn't give in. I had to do this, to show I wasn't weak. Even if they thought I was only a half-blood wolf, I was NOT weak! Then PJ stumbled back a couple feet. Geez, I didn't hit him that hard. When he looked up, his eyes weren't the same color. They were completely black.

He was under someone else's control. That's why he had disappeared for a couple days. He must have been captured and a hex or spell put on him. Everyone watching gasped. "Star, be careful. That's 'Soul's Influence'." Sarah shouted at me. I already had a guess who was behind this. The alpha of the Blood Moon pack.

I took a breath to try and stay calm. You have to be careful Storm. He's not doing this by himself. That spell needs something to hold the control. Sapphire reminded me. I know. He has to be wearing something that's emitting the spell. I thought back. PJ lunged at me. Something glinted in the light. It was a silver blade of some kind.

I growled sharply. This was taking things was too far. The most I could do was avoid being stabbed. Then, I couldn't avoid it. PJ had tripped me, sending the blade into my side. There were multiple growls. That's it! Spell or not, he asked for this!  I thought, growling sharply. I shifted, not caring for a second everyone saw.

I knocked PJ over, baring my teeth. My ears were half down, because I could feel the silver starting to go through my system. There it was. PJ had a gold chain on. He never wore a necklace. He said it would only inhibit his training. The chain had a charm on it. I grabbed the charm with my teeth carefully. Hannah whined. "Stop it, you're hurting him!" She screamed.

I pulled the chain off, snapping the links. Hannah gasped. Good, now she understood what I was doing. I don't kill shifters. I won't kill anyone.  I dropped the charm, moving so PJ could stand up.  His eyes were back to normal.  Then, he saw me.  Everyone else had gone silent.  "So much for keeping a low profile Storm."  Eva said, shaking her head.
