Storm's POV
I tried to howl again but I couldn't open my mouth. I could barely open my eyes too. "What if she wakes up?" A voice said. It was muffled. I could feel a jolting movement. Where are we? I thought to Sapphire tiredly.
I think we're in a van. She replied scaredly. "She won't wake up, there's enough antistetic and the stuff in her system to keep her down. I'm just not sure why it took four darts to bring her down." There was a gruff laugh. "Did you forget the coat coloring? Come on man, she has to be strong. Didn't you see how long she kept going? It usually takes just one or two to bring one of them down. I'm just worried that she howled. That must have alerted the rest of her pack, if she has one. We'll have to be careful. Hey! Watch it!" The voice became startled.
The car jolted to the left. "Did you see that one? Dam, they must already be on our trail. Step one the gas, we've got to get to the lab." He voice was still startled but it was rushed. There was a howl, it was close.
I lifted my paw up slowly and used my claw to break the rope around my muzzle. I let out a low howl. I stood up slowly "She's up! Quick, put her back under. Before they hear her." I could barely stand. I stood shakily. I howled again and this time, I slashed at the person that was trying to get closer to me.
He had a needle in his hand. I yelped as the needle was driven into my flank. I slumped back down on the the floor. I let another howl out, hoping that whoever had scared the men driving could hear me. I wasn't brought back into total blackness. I could still hear and feel. I just couldn't move. I heard an answering howl. I could tell it wasn't Alpha Jace or Ash.
I didn't recognize it. The howl sounded heartbroken. Sapphire whined and wanted me to try to howl back. We don't know who that is. I thought to her. She growled. The thing in the needle must have been reaching her now. Sapphire whined again.
He's...our...mate. I felt Sapphire cut our connection. Mate? We couldn't have a mate. I was only fifteen. I didn't even recognize the signs of our mate being near. Nothing had signaled a mate. Except... when I had first met Jacob. His scent had made me stop in my tracks. I hadn't realized how it smelled.
When I asked one of the other girls who had their mates, they had said that their mates scent would draw them closer. I hadn't realized what the scent meant. Jacob Black was my mate. I managed to whine once, loud enough that a wolf outside the vehicle could hear. There was a very soft whine in return. I continued to fight the sleep that kept coming.
I needed to try. I had to, for Ash, for my pack and for my mate. Come on Storm. You are strong, you are strong. I felt the sensation of sleep start to fade. You need to be strong for Ash, for our pack. For my mate, for... my Jacob.
As I thought his name, I felt the last of the erge to sleep disappear. I opened my eyes. Lifting my head up slowly, I saw that I was in a white room. There was a single window, it was facing the forest. I saw a flicker of movement before the door opened.
"Well, look who decided to wake up." A man, who smelled strongly of human, walked in wearing a long white coat. I growled. I tried to get up but I was bound to a table. "Now, there's no need for any of that. I just want to run a few tests. You see, your whole race just fascinates me. I want to test your DNA. To see what makes you tick." Somehow, I knew that I couldn't trust a word he was saying.
I growled again and tried to get up. I heard one of the restraining bands break. The man in the white coat took a step back. Another band broke. I twisted and the last two bands broke. The doctor turned and ran out of the door. I stood up and nearly fell right back down. My back left leg was aching.
There was a bloody cut. I looked towards the window and jumped though it. My leg screamed in pain. I nearly fell and a whine slipped out before I could stop it. I shook my fur out slightly. I was glad when I felt my necklaces charm bump into my chest. I started to sprint into the tree line. I heard running and shouting.
I sped up as fast as my leg let me. Soon the building was behind me and all I could see was trees as far a the eye could see. There were no recognizable scents. All I could smell were rouges. I jumped at almost every sound. I could still hear the men coming from behind me. I kept going until I fell. It was beginning to become night.
I knew that if I didn't find a nice friend or a hiding spot, I would be dead before morning. Either the men would kill me or the rouges would. I kept looking until I found a small cave. It was near a lake. The rouge scents got stronger. I went into the water and swam towards the cave.
There was some moss just within reach. I grabbed it with my mouth and got onto the shore. I carefully wrapped the moss around my left back leg and continually flinched until I was fully laid down. I had gone enter the back of the cave, my white fur facing the back wall.
It would be hard to see me unless someone knew I was there. I set my head on my front paws and let sleep finally take control.
