I'd locked myself in my room for a week, ignoring the omegas trying to get my attention and barely eating. The brothers hadn't come to check on me once, and I wondered if they'd came to the same conclusion as me.

They couldn't be with me. An alpha being mated to an omega is the laughing stock of the alphas. And two? It wasn't unheard of for brothers or twins to share a mate, but two sharing an omega? It was just ridiculous. Sooner or later, they'd keep the omega for mating purposes, but usually brought in another alpha or beta to raise their status. People would gradually come to terms with it, but they'd all still be aware that the alphas were fated to be with an omega.

My body knew they were mine instinctively, even when I kept telling myself that it wasn't going to happen. I didn't want to believe it, but my eyes glowing was the proof. Eventually, my body would crave the bonding process, where they would mark me. If I didn't leave, I knew I'd eventually give in, just like I had with my heat.

I looked over at my suitcases, all brought in from a few of the omegas. I didn't bother to check those, or the accompanying boxes. I knew my parents wouldn't leave a trace of me back at their home.

Eventually, my eyes found the window. The curtains were drawn shut, but I knew it was dark out. The number of miles I could put between me and the brothers could be hidden by the trees. I could leave before they even knew what had happened.

I didn't need anything from my suitcases. They'd only be taken from me from those in the slums. So I didn't take anything.

I stood and walked over to the window, pulling the curtains open and looking down to the ground below. I was on the second story, but if I landed right, then it would only cause minor bruising.

I slid the window open and popped out the screen, sliding it carefully down onto the floor of the bedroom.

I had one foot swung out the window when...

"Where are you going?"

I flinched and fell back into the room. My back hit the floor and I groaned softly, clenching my eyes shut at the small burst of pain.

When I opened my eyes again, both brothers were standing above me.

I sighed and rolled over onto my side to push myself up.

"How'd you know," I asked, standing. I brushed myself off before crossing my arms and looking at them.

"We have a security system," Cayson stated. "Now, where were you going?"

"Why does it matter," I asked.

Keon eyed me. "Because if you were to jump down there, you could seriously hurt yourself. If you don't answer the question, Phoenix, we'll force it out of you. Where were you going?"

I scoffed and turned away from them, but I was suddenly pushed against the wall, my body pinned by, not one, but two hard bodies. They both had me pinned, Cayson on my left, Keon on my right. They had a hand each, holding it stretched above my head. With their free hands, they flexed their fingers over my abdomen, pushing me against the wall. Each had a leg pressed between mine, making escape impossible.

I didn't even bother to struggle.

"Do you know how hard it is to stay away from you," Cayson breathed in my ear. "We get little bits of information on you from the people you actually allow into your room."

"It's not enough, Phoenix." I felt Keon's jaw tighten against my cheek as he leaned forward.

I remained quiet, but closed my eyes. I could tell they were glowing. They had been since the moment their hands touched me.

"Where were you going?" Cayson sounded pained as he spoke into my ear.

"I was leaving." I opened my eyes and watched them pull away ever so slightly to look at me. Both of their eyes glowed bright, staring into mine. They looked like alphas set upon their prey.

I shut my eyes again.

"Where," Keon whispered.

"Anywhere but here."

Cayson made a noise between a growl and a pained whine as he pulled away from me. Keon was next, but he pulled away without a sound.

"You really want to leave that badly," Cayson whispered.

I did want to leave. I wanted to walk out of that house and go somewhere, anywhere else.

But. I did agree to stay in the house with them for an entire month. If I did that, I'd get my pills and they'd let me go.

I looked at the open window, then back at the waiting brothers. "I'm sorry. I said I'd stay for a month. I wasn't thinking."

I turned and grabbed the screen and pushed it back into place with a small click. I then slid the window closed and turn back, seeing the two staring at me like they feared I would have jumped out the window the moment I walked over there.

"Can you meet us for breakfast," Keon asked. "Physically come downstairs and eat breakfast with us? We'll explain everything, I promise."

I bit my lip and turned my face away. I couldn't bear to see their eyes glowing, and I didn't want them to see mine.

"Yes," I said. "I'll come down."

I would, even if I didn't want to. Even if I wanted to stay as far away from them as I possibly could. I could see reason, however. So that's why I decided not to jump out of the window and face my problems head-on. Because let's face it, the two men standing before me was a problem that I had to overcome. I didn't want to be with them for more than just my own personal safety. They had to see that.

I looked down at the ground.

"You haven't smiled a day since you've been here," Cayson said.

I looked back up. "I haven't smiled a day since I hit puberty."

Keon closed his eyes and turned his head away as if he felt bad for me and my situation. Cayson, however, just looked at me unblinking, as if waiting for the punchline to a terrible joke.

"We'll see you tomorrow morning, Phoenix." He turned, putting his hand on his brother's shoulder and turning him towards the door. "Sleep well."
