~ Cayson's POV ~
The longer I listened in on Phoenix and her father's conversation, the angrier I became. I wasn't the only one either. Keon was vibrating beside me, his eyes glowing much in the same way I was sure mine was.
We hadn't invited him over. Of fucking course we hadn't. He called ten minutes before he rang the doorbell to tell us that he was coming, and to prepare Phoenix because he needed to speak to her. It didn't matter that we refused, the moment that doorbell rang, I knew we didn't have much of a choice.
He told us that we needed to stay out of the conversation, since it didn't pertain to us. Maybe not, but that didn't stop us from using the phone in our office to listen to their conversation. We heard everything, from the possible loss of citizenship for omegas, to the unmistakable sound of a body hitting the floor.
Theo and Seth came in at our insistence, and the moment they walked in, they heard Phoenix scream out that Stephan was a manipulative bastard, and then the sound of a dull thump and a choked out exclamation.
That was where I lost it. I took a step towards the office, but Seth grabbed my arm and shook his head, his eyes glowing. He looked in the direction of the office, a pucker of skin between his eyebrows being the only thing that told me that he was concentrating.
My mate was hurting. Ever since that bond between us started growing, Keon and I could feel her emotions almost as well as we felt our own. There was shock, then hurt, then she became resigned. And maybe that's what finally pissed Keon off even more than me. The fact that she was so used to this kind of bullshit treatment from her father, that she couldn't even stay shocked for more than a few seconds.
"You have no right to touch me," Phoenix said, and every single one of us lost it.
We were at the door, opening it slowly to catch him off guard even though all I wanted to do was shove it open and rip his jugular out with my teeth.
The moment I caught sight of Phoenix, laying on the ground with her father's foot on her throat, I growled.
"I suggest you get off of her before I break your leg," I hissed.
Theo and Seth slipped into the room silently, and while Stephan was eyeing me, they slid behind him.
Even when he was ripped off of her, he continued to smile, spouting shit about Phoenix never letting us do anything to him.
But she surprised every single one of us.
"You're not my father, remember?" She looked so strong and beautiful in that moment that I almost kissed her. Her short frame stood tall and she stared down at her father through cold, ruthless eyes.
That ruthlessness not only sealed his fate, but made me fall just that much more in love with her.
She knelt down beside him and looked him directly in the eye, and I saw Keon stop breathing, much like I had stopped breathing.
"You taught me ruthlessness to those who deserve ruthlessness, daddy," she said. "Are you proud of me yet?"
I trusted Seth and Theo with everything I had. They'd been there through everything with Keon and I, went through hell with us, and I knew the moment Stephan jerked to attack Phoenix, they'd protect her. Keon and I weren't close enough to act, so I was glad they were.
My little mate didn't even fucking flinch. She just stared him right in the eye as Theo and Seth forced his body back to the ground.
My chest tightened, and the moment she stood, Keon and I were on either side of her.
