The next day, I sat quietly at the kitchen table, once again trying to find the words to type. Every thought evaded me, and when I thought I had something, I couldn't grow on it. Even just rambling didn't work because my mind was completely blank.

I wasn't going to take the pills, nor was I going to have them put me to sleep. The smell of roses was heavier than it had been the night before, and I knew it was only a matter of time. I could feel it beginning to curl deep within my abdomen, waiting for just the right - or wrong - moment to start.

Both men were at work, texting me constantly to make sure I was ok. They kept telling me time and time again that they'd be home soon, and I kept telling them I was fine.

Seth and Theo were both at the house, and I think that made both of them nervous. If my heat started, I knew they were worried Seth wouldn't stop himself.

I shut my laptop and laid my head down on top of the cool metal. I could talk about the cookout and my decision, but I didn't want my followers knowing that much about my life. They already knew enough.

A twinge of pain made my heart skip a beat.

I didn't want to have my heat, but it was too late to stop it now. Seth and Theo didn't know the correct dosage to give to put me to sleep, and it seemed that, by the time Keon and Cayson got home, I'd already be in too deep.

I stood quickly, not even bothering to take my laptop with me as I left the kitchen and went upstairs.

I ran straight into Theo as another twinge of pain curled in my stomach.

I clenched my fist in his shirt and doubled over.

His arm wrapped below me and he held me until the pain passed. When I met eyes with him, his were glowing blue.

"Don't worry," he said. "I won't do anything. I just...have a fondness for the scent."

I didn't think he would.

Seth, however...

He stepped around the corner and stared down at me, hazel eyes glowing. His hands were in fists in his pockets, and he was visibly trying to remain still and calm.

"He won't do anything either," Theo promised. "But we need to get you into a room and away from him."

Seth raised his head ever so slightly. "Probably for the best. And even though you're not straight, Theo, you need to leave her after you put her in the room."

Theo rolled his eyes.

Another wave of pain made my knees buckle and my breath hitch. It came so quickly that Theo didn't even have time to react. I was on the floor in only a second, grasping my abdomen.

Seth made a noise.

Theo knelt and touched my shoulder, and the contact made me shiver.

"Yeah," Theo said, his voice taking on a hard tone, "I understand now. Come on, Phoenix. Let's get you in a room. Can you call Keon and Cayson, Seth?"

He had the phone to his ear before I was able to stand.

"As much as I love the formalities," Seth growled into the phone, "I suggest you come home and take care of your mate."

Theo wrapped an arm around my waist to keep me upright.

"Great," Seth cooed. "I'll be sure to do that. I know not to touch her, you idiots. Quit screaming."

I flinched and Theo's arm tightened around me. He let me recover before he walked me forward a few steps.

I was glad that it was only pain for the moment. It kept my head relatively clear. I knew once the pleasure started, I wouldn't think clearly at all. I'd want and need release.
