Keon and Cayson stared at Teo with eyes made for a predator. The moment Teo said he had to induce my heat, they both went dead still and silent, staring at him like they wanted to rip his head off. Teo didn't even explain. He just let them glare at him.
"I don't mind if the two of you are there as well," he said. "But she has to be awake and aware the entire time. Once I figure out what it is that's causing her heat to be as potent as you say it is, I'll let you take care of her. We'll put her in examination room two. No one can see anything."
He hadn't even explained it to me. He just said, "This is where you trust me", and called Keon and Cayson in.
I literally just got done telling him that I didn't trust him.
"Her mother is going to be here in fifteen minutes," Keon growled.
That was an attempt to switch the conversation, to put the other topic to rest.
Teo blinked slowly. "The one who wants to be my assistant? That's fine. I'll interview her, then I'll induce Phoenix's heat."
Cayson, ever the calm one, just continued to look at his boss through slightly narrowed eyes. It was as if I could see the gears moving in his head, trying to figure out a way to not have this other alpha induce my heat and be in the same room.
I didn't want Teo to do anything of the sort. I didn't mind being poked, even though I hated pain, and I didn't mind him touching me. But making me go through my heat not even a week after I had my last one? I wasn't ready for that.
"Why do his eyes glow," I finally asked to break the silence.
Teo's eyes flitted to me before he groaned and covered them with a hand.
Keon snorted, but no one offered an explanation.
Cayson nodded. "I can do whatever it is you need to do, with you out of the room."
Teo lowered his hand from his face, resigned. "Fine, but it'll be in examination room one, and I will be watching the entire time."
I choked, and all eyes turned to me.
He'd be watching what the entire time? The examination, or the whole...well, everything? Start to finish?
He glanced at me and raised one blonde eyebrow in question. When Keon and Cayson turned, Cayson laughed while Keon smirked as a small light glittered behind his eyes. I wasn't sure what face I was making, but it seemed to amuse the hell out of all three men.
A knock at the door saved me from any further embarrassment. Teo called for the person to come in, and my mother opened the door. She was dressed in a white knee-length dress, so simple and yet so perfect for her skin tone. My mother always knew how to dress to match both her figure and tone, which always made me slightly jealous. I just wore whatever and looked so-so.
When that woman dressed to impress, though, she definitely impressed.
Teo tilted his head.
"Hello," she said, closing the door. She clasped her hands in front of her, hiding some of the jagged cuts in her skin. "I'm Marie Rose. Pheonix's mother."
Teo raised his head ever so slightly, surveying her. "Give me just a minute, Marie. I'm in the middle of figuring out why your daughter's heat is as bad as it is. Unless you'd like to enlighten us?"
His words were like a whip, like he believed my mother to know.
My mother, however, didn't even flinch. "Of course. I'll give you as long as you need. But as for why my daughter's heat is bad, I wouldn't know. I haven't experienced her heat. She was on suppressants for seven years."
