I stared at myself in the mirror in my bathroom. I was wearing a black tank top with burgundy shorts and black tennis shoes. All of which were incredibly easy to run in, if I felt like running. I already felt like I wanted to run. I kept thinking of all the looks I'd get. Anyone who knew my parents knew me. And every single one of those people thought I was an alpha until that function.
I blew air out through my mouth and turned away from my reflection. I knew I could ask them for the perfume and they'd give it to me. But what would that prove, other than the fact that I was too afraid to be who I am?
I'd be fine. I had to be.
The brothers looked up when I entered the entry hall. Both of them grinned at me, probably noticing the lack of effort in clothing choices, and also the fact that I did my makeup for once. It wasn't much. I just put eyeliner and some mascara on, but it made my normally large eyes look even larger by comparison. I'd also left my hair down.
Mia walked in and smiled at me. "You look beautiful, Miss. Rose."
"Phoenix," I corrected without thought.
"I'm sorry." She bowed her head slightly. "I should have known. Tami told me you like to be called Phoenix."
Tami? The only other person I told to call me Phoenix was the girl who helped me after my heat. Come to think of it, I hadn't seen her since.
"How is Tami," I asked, turning to her.
She raised her eyebrows and looked at Keon and Cayson in confusion. "She's fine. Why do you ask?"
"Is she hurt?" My question drew her attention back to me. Her eyebrows furrowed and she pursed her lips, as if she had no idea what I was talking about.
Good. The way Keon acted worried me the last time I saw her. He sounded murderous.
"I wouldn't hurt her," Keon said, as if reading my mind. "She pissed me off because I told her to at least watch you to make sure you were okay. Which, obviously you weren't."
"Oh," Mia smiled, "their version of punishment is us cleaning the toilets every day for a month. She's fine, Phoenix. I promise. I can have her come by your room when you get home, if you want."
I nodded. "I'd appreciate that."
She nodded her affirmation and gave us a little wave goodbye before I turned and followed the brothers outside.
Keon glanced over his shoulder. "You're too good, you know that?"
Cayson smiled and reached back for my hand, which I grabbed without even thinking.
"She's kind," Cayson said. "And very obviously cares for omegas."
I lowered my head and followed them to a slick black car - much like the last two that I'd been in with them. I tried to figure out what it was just by looking at the insignia, but I couldn't place what it was. I'd never been much into cars. But one would think they'd remember a vehicle with a horse insignia.
Cayson opened the door and moved the front seat forward for me to be able to climb into the back.
It still smelled like a new car and leather. The interior was completely and utterly spotless and I couldn't help but stare at the horse insignia on the steering wheel.
Keon slid into the driver's seat and ran his hands over the wheel with so much gentleness I felt like I should give the two of them time. I'd never understood men and their obsession with vehicles, but I guess if I had such a nice car, I'd treat it like that also.
A push of a button had the car literally roaring to life. I clenched my hands at the seat below me and looked at the expression on Keon's face. He was absolutely euphoric.
