Of course the great doctor owned a hotel as well as a hospital. For me to be comfortable, he said we could go to a hotel down the way. When we got there, the staff all said hello to him and he waved or gave them a nod. When we got to the basement, he finally said that he owned the place.
The basement held more than just the kitchen staff and laundry room, and staring at it made my stomach churn.
He had a full-on laboratory in the basement of his hotel, right smack dab next to a bedroom.
"Do you live here?" I pointed to the bed.
Teo unlocked a door within the bedroom and opened it, which opened straight into the lab. He turned his head to look at me, my finger, then the bed.
"No." He turned his attention back to the lab and stepped in. "It's best you don't know."
Keon murmured something inaudible and grinned when I looked back to him. He seemed to know what the room was, and so did Cayson if his eye-roll was any indication.
"This is partially the reason why we weren't worried about losing our jobs." He nodded towards Teo, who was getting a syringe ready. "He likes omegas. He's relatively quiet about it, but he's more fond of omegas than he is betas and alphas."
Teo glanced over, fully aware that we were talking about him. He did a half-shrug and lifted the syringe up to eye-level to measure out the medicine that would induce my heat. He moved slowly, making sure everything was precise.
He slid the medicine back into its place and capped the needle before walking back to us.
"A blood sample will need to be taken when it starts." Teo stopped only two feet away from me and I had to crane my neck to look up at him. He held the syringe up. "And another will need to be taken after your first release."
I felt my face heat.
I thought I saw his lip twitch, but it was gone within a second.
"The only times I'll touch her is when I'm getting blood." He turned to the brothers. "I need it done quickly and precisely. I'll be in the lab for the majority of it. I just need you to call me in after her first release, then you can do as you please."
Keon narrowed his eyes, but didn't say anything to object.
"You've never experienced her heat," Cayson said. "What makes you think you can stay in control?"
Teo only looked at him.
Cayson sighed, running long fingers through his hair and looking away. They knew something about Teo that I didn't, and no matter how hard I thought through it, I couldn't figure out what it was that was different.
Even the way he carried himself was different from how Keon and Cayson held themselves. The brothers were alphas, and anyone who looked at them would be able to tell. But Teo? I could feel he was an alpha, even without looking at him or without being able to smell his pheromones. Those odd glowing eyes were not the eyes of prey, like mine could be described. They were the eyes of someone who had seen so much and done so much to keep the title of alpha.
"What are you," I murmured.
I'd asked it more to myself than to him, but he glanced down at me all the same. Once again, no explanation was offered. Just eye contact and that feeling of being studied.
I finally looked away.
And he stabbed my arm with the fucking needle.
I looked down at it, then up at him.
"It's better to do it when the mind is elsewhere," Teo explained, pulling the needle back out. "It should only take about ten minutes for it to start."
"Why do you have that medicine here?" I watched as he walked back into the lab, so different from the room the brothers and I stood in.
The lab was white and clean, and looked much like the lab I met him in. It was almost an exact replica, except just a little bit smaller in size.
The bedroom, however, was dark. The walls were gray, the floors were black wood, and the bed was covered in black sheets. There were nightstands with dark gray lamps on each.
Teo threw the syringe into a red disposal and turned to me again. He looked at me from the expanse of space and raised an eyebrow.
Man of many secrets, it seemed.
Keon turned me to him and bent at the waist to be eye-level with me. "Are you sure about us marking you?"
That question again. The more they asked, the more nervous I became. Nevermind the fact that my heat was being induced by a man I barely knew, I also agreed to allow Keon and Cayson to mark me.
I nodded, as I had been since the moment we left the hospital. They both took turns asking, excitedly looking at each other when I repeated yes every time. Every time, I got more and more nervous. What if they changed? Became like every other alpha? What if they didn't actually love me, and they were just saying that to tie me down to them?
"Stop." Cayson slipped his arms around me and pulled me to him. "You're overthinking."
They knew me too well. A little over a month and they could read me like a book. They learned all my expressions, learned my body language. I wasn't able to hide a damn thing from them anymore.
Teo walked back in, his eyes on his watch. Behind him, he was dragging a metal rolling table with those needles.
I curled my lip.
He looked at me, then down at the table. "How else am I supposed to get a blood sample?"
I didn't care. I hated needles and anything resembling pain. My heat? Hated it. But I was curious as to what else my father had done to me, on top of getting my uterus removed. I was also curious if Sage was the one to do whatever it was to make my heat so bad. But that would be a question for a later time.
I shifted on my feet, uncomfortable again for the umpteenth time since this whole thing started. No matter how you looked at it, Teo would see me during my heat. The thought made me more nervous than ever.
"You might want to go lie down," Teo commented when the slight scent of roses began permeating throughout the room.
I glared at him and crossed my arms. I felt weak enough as it was. I didn't want to go lay down and just wait for the pain. I wanted to stand, be ready for it.
He looked at his watch again. "Have it your way."
Not five seconds later, pain shot through my abdomen and my knees went weak. I clutched at my stomach, holding my breath in some effort to make the pain lessen. Oh, it was coming alright. And it was coming quickly.
I somehow remained standing, and when I looked up, all three men's eyes were glowing. Teo's more than before. But they all held themselves together, and Teo's eyes never lost that curious air.
I held my arm out, letting my breath rush out of my lungs.
"It hasn't fully started yet." Teo didn't even reach for the needle, as if he knew right when my heat would be there. Right when it would hit and made my entire body weak.
It seemed like forever before he finally picked up the needle. One more glance at his watch, and the moment he looked at me, a mixture of pain and pleasure wracked my entire body, and I fell to my knees.

A/N: Teo isn't normal, like a couple of you said. There's a ranking that Phoenix isn't aware of. He's still an alpha, but the type of alpha that he is makes other "powers" more visible. The glowing eyes is a result of him studying. Whenever he studies someone, whether that be inside or outside of the laboratory, his eyes glow.
There *is* some attraction, but none that he'd ever act on. Especially since he's aware of who her mates are.
There's another one of these alphas in this book. It's subtle, but I've hinted at it before. Can you guess who it is?
