I reached out, grabbed Simon's throat, and jerked him to me. The sudden movement made him stumble and fall into my body. Normally, I would have fallen under the weight. But I just stood, my hand still around his throat, staring down at him as he struggled to gain purchase. The moment he caught his footing, I swung myself, and him, around and slammed him against the cement railing.

He sputtered, his eyes widening.

He wasn't aware we were being watched. I was, and wondered how far they'd let me go before they stopped me.

"Where do you get off calling others monsters," I hissed.

He showed me his teeth. I had no doubt he was pissed. But there was his anger...

And there was mine.

My anger was like a tornado, slamming hard into everything that crossed my path. And Simon, God save him, was right in my way.

The omegas in my parents' house hated me because I was let off easy, in their eyes. I didn't have to work my ass off every day. Most, if not all, of them knew I'd tried multiple times to help. To be my rank and work among those who were my rank. But I was scoffed at and joked about. And if my father saw me trying to work?

I'd "get hit around a bit", as Simon said.

I almost laughed. My father beat me so bad one time that my mother had to call in a doctor to put my shoulder back in place. "A bit" was the understatement of the century.

"I'd like to break your neck," I said, so quiet I wondered if he heard, until he narrowed his eyes.

He opened his mouth to reply, but shut it. Maybe he knew it was better to stay quiet.

I glanced behind me.

They still hadn't come out of the shadows. So he was being quiet because of me.

"So you've had your heat," he finally said, throwing me completely off guard. "I thought you were taking those pills."

I narrowed my eyes at him.

He smirked. "I can smell it. It's different. More...rich."

I punched him. Hard. His head whipped to the side and I heard a crack from the bones in his neck. They hadn't been ready for me to attack him, but then again, neither was their owner. I never raised a fist to anyone in that house.

He slowly turned his head to face me again, and there was blood dripping from his nose. The flesh between his eyebrows was puckered in anger, and his lips were pulled down into a grimace.

It was common courtesy not to speak of another omega's heat. Especially the scent of it. Generally, they all smelled the same. Obviously, mine didn't, but it didn't need to be pointed out.

"Bitch," he hissed.

I punched him again, but he expected it and his head didn't move more than a couple of inches.

His hands moved too fast for me to stop it. One closed into a fist in my shirt, while the other slammed hard into my face.

My hand fell away from his throat as I fell back. I landed hard on my ass and let out a small groan of surprise and pain. When I lifted a hand to my throbbing cheek, it came away bloody.

He had a ring on the pointer finger of the hand he punched me with.

'Get up,' a voice murmured in my head, 'and kick his ass. I'm not letting Keon or Cayson come help you.'

Freaking Seth.

'Fuck you,' I thought back to him, forcing myself to my feet.

'I mean, if you insist.'
