Their idea of "trying" consisted of me watching a movie with them, seated between their two warm bodies. They each sat still most of the time, but they bumped their thigh up against my own on multiple occasions. Each touch sent a surge of electricity through my body and I squirmed each time, trying to move away from the contact. Every time I moved, whoever touched me curled their lip up into a smirk.

I still felt incredibly odd and out of place, seated between them. I couldn't shake the feeling that I should be with the other omegas, cleaning or taking care of things around the house. Then again, my assumption that everyone would know was right.

After dinner, the looks of the other omegas changed towards me. There was no hostility or anger, just curiosity. I heard the words "fated pair" at least three times on our walk to the little movie theater in their home. Each time I heard it, I flinched while the brothers either smiled slightly or pretended they didn't hear.

They knew, as well as I did, that I wouldn't open up as quickly as they'd like. But if they were telling the truth, and don't look down on omegas, I could at least leave on good terms with them.

They chose a scary movie, and each time there was a jump scare, I caught them glancing at me to see if I reacted. Scary movies didn't do anything for me, like romance movies made me sick. I'd seen more realistic things that were scarier than the things popping up on the screens.

"The only reason this movie is considered horror," I said, "is the fact that there has been at least six jumpscares with accompanying loud noises."

The actors were all alphas also. So they wouldn't know scary if it stabbed them in the face.

"Scary movies don't scare you." Cayson seemed impressed. "That's a first."

I looked over at him. "This isn't scary. It should be labeled a comedy for the terrible acting."

Keon barked out a laugh and placed a hand on my knee. "You're so adorable."

I tilted my head, which only made his smile grow to a full-on grin. It transformed his face completely, making one little dimple in his left cheek dent in slightly.

Alphas have always been more beautiful than the rest.

"Don't stare too long, Kitten," Cayson teased. "He'll get a complex."

I tore my eyes away from Keon to look at his brother, equally as beautiful in his own way.

"Why is it you two look alike but don't at the same time," I asked.

"Different mothers." Cayson smiled.

The hand on my knee squeezed, reminding me that Keon was still touching me and I hadn't noticed at all.

I tentatively placed my hand over his and he stiffened, as if waiting for me to push his hand away. When I didn't, he relaxed ever so slightly.

The things I've read about fated pairs told me that most of the time, they immediately love each other. They meet and mate all in the same day, and remain with each other for life. That wasn't how we were going to do it, though. We were going to take it slow, I was going to attempt to open up to them and I was willing to "act", up to a certain extent.

Cayson looked at my hand over his brother's and his eyes softened. So...I reached over and placed my hand over his as well.

I wasn't sure if what I'd read about fated pairs were true or false, but what I did know was that love, in any sense of the word, took effort. I wasn't sure I could love. I didn't even know what it felt like.

Cayson rolled his hand over and linked his fingers through mine. I didn't look down at it, I kept my eyes on the screen and tried to ignore the warmth emanating off of the two men at my sides.

Once the movie was over, Keon pulled me up to my feet and dragged me along behind him as he led me somewhere else within the house. When he brought me to their bedroom, I almost pulled away.

"We can talk better here," Cayson explained.

There were plenty of other rooms in the house that could be used to have a conversation, but I didn't speak my thoughts. I figured they had a reason for their choosing their room instead of going to an office or study.

They motioned to the bed and I sat down slowly.

"I do have a question," I said, watching as they sat down in two armchairs across from me.

Cayson rested his right ankle over his left knee, while Keon sat back in his chair.

"Are you only doing this because I'm your fated mate," I asked, "or are you doing this for some other reason?"

"There's a deep-seated love in everyone for their true mate," Cayson said.

I shook my head. "So you're doing this out of obligation?"

"No." He sounded offended. "Do you not feel anything at all when you're with us?"

I shrugged one shoulder half-heartedly. "I wouldn't know love if it hit me in the head. I don't love and I've sure as hell never been loved past the age of thirteen."

"We're not asking if you love us." Keon leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees. He leaned into his upturned palm and raised an eyebrow. "We're asking if you feel anything when you're with us."

Anger. Exasperation. Annoyance. But I doubted that was what they wanted to hear.

They were warm.

I clenched my teeth and looked away from their probing eyes. They were so damn warm it made me feel like I was about to start sweating. And not just their body heat. Their stares were hot, their touches were hot, everything surrounding them was warm and comfortable. They were like a fire on a cold winter night, so inviting.

I hated physical contact in any form of the word. But I didn't mind waking up with them that one morning with them curled up against me.

"No," I said, "I feel nothing."

Keon smirked. "Bull shit."

Then why the hell did they ask if they were so damn sure of themselves?

Cayson's lip curled up at the sides. "You try so hard, little one."

I narrowed my eyes. "I don't feel anything. I don't know what you think I feel, but I don't."

Lights behind their eyes glowed suddenly and I wondered if it was out of anger. But the narrowing of their eyes did not seem like anger. It seared my flesh as they looked over me and my entire body erupted in heat. It was as if they could see right through me.

They both stood in one fluid motion and stalked towards me. I began to stand up, but they both were in front of me, pushing me back into a seated position.

Keon leaned forward and ran a warm tongue over my ear lobe, ending the caress with a nip of his teeth. He slowly dragged his teeth over my lobe and then turned his face into my neck, breathing out hot air onto my chilled skin.

Cayson slinked his fingers up my thigh, starting at my knee. His hand caused goosebumps to rise in its wake and I bit my lip. he eyed me through heavy lids and smirked.

"Silly little Kitten," he murmured as his hand stopped its upward motion to my center. "Keep telling yourself you don't feel a thing when you're with us."

"It's the bond, if anything," I said, my voice quiet.

"Mm," Keon hummed, nipping at my neck. "The bond wouldn't make you like this, sweetheart. This is all your own reactions to us, just like our wanting to fuck you is all our own reaction."

I clenched my hands into fists at my sides. "I don't even know you."

"Oh," Cayson leaned just a bit closer, his lips so close to my own, "but you will."

I shook my head. "Even if I will, I don't feel anything right now."

Keon's hand gently grasped my knee and pulled it towards him, opening my legs ever so slightly. He growled into my ear.

"Bull...shit," he whispered, grinning against my throat.
