The next morning, Keon was the one to shake me awake. When my eyes opened, he smiled gently at me.
The night before, I'd been so listless that they took me into the bathroom and washed me. I was too tired and too weak to object, even if I wanted to. They were so careful with me, washing every inch of me, making sure every bit of soap was out of my hair and off of my skin. Cayson put ointment on the red marks around my wrists and legs.
To be honest, I fell asleep in the tub and didn't wake up until the moment Keon leaned over me and woke me up.
"Hey, sweetheart," Keon murmured.
My heart clenched and I turned into him, burying my face in his chest. His arms wrapped around me and pulled me closer into his warmth.
"Where's Cayson?" My question was muffled, and my lips brushing against his skin seemed to tickle him. He squirmed a bit, and I lightly blew air out of my mouth.
He pulled away and narrowed his eyes at me. "He's making breakfast. Stop tickling me, you little shit."
I laughed and drew myself closer to him again. He was warm and smelled like cinnamon, on top of that dark chocolate scent. It was an oddly addicting smell, and I smiled slightly as I breathed him in.
He rolled me on top of him and cradled my head in his neck. "I love you."
I hummed. I knew my not being able to say it hurt the two of them, but it still wasn't the right time. It needed to be said to both of them, preferably at the same time. It just seemed like I never got the chance. Soon, though. I'd have to say it soon.
He turned his head and kissed my cheek. Then my lips when I turned my face towards him. He smiled.
"You know," I rolled off of him, but kept my body close to his, "out of the two of you, I thought you'd be the more sadistic one."
He raised his eyebrows. "I'm offended. What makes you think that?"
He wasn't offended in the least, if that little twinkle behind his eyes was any indication.
"You're more intense than him usually."
He blinked. "I'm...intense?"
There was no use in lying to him. "Very. But it's not a bad thing in the least. Makes you more interesting."
His lip twitched up before he rolled out of bed. The moment his feet hit the floor, he reached out and pulled me to my feet.
After breakfast, the two of them checked out and we began our drive home. I sat in the passenger seat of Cayson's car, looking out the window at the passing scenery. I could tell they were exchanging looks, and the longer they remained silent, the thicker the air became.
"So," Cayson finally said.
I turned my head to look at him.
He cleared his throat. "I have the slightest feeling you're not going to like this."
The moment he said that, nerves began curling in my stomach. Butterflies set upon getting out, no matter how much gore it caused in the process.
He looked back at Keon again through the rear-view mirror.
Keon picked up, "There's another alpha meeting in about a week."
I blinked dumbly at him, then at Cayson. "Okay, and? Have fun?"
Another glance at each other.
"No," I said before they could explain. I already knew what they were going to say and I was not going to another freaking alpha function. The last one was the first and the last. I didn't want to go back there and be looked down upon by the same alphas who barely looked my way.
