I pulled away from them, even though my body screamed to pull them closer. I wanted to believe them. Truly, I did. But I couldn't. Not yet.
"I think our first order of business is to finally make you smile." Keon nodded and looked to his brother for confirmation.
Cayson hummed. He studied me intensely, those green eyes moving over every inch of me. Suddenly, he reached out and started tickling my sides.
I stared at him blankly. I'd never been ticklish. It was a cute effort though.
He harrumphed and pulled his hands away. They both shared a look, doing that weird thing they did where it looked like they were communicating. I wondered if alphas could do that...communicate through thought. I knew they had more abilities than what omegas did, but I wasn't taught any of that.
"Funny movies," Keon asked.
I shook my head. "Comedies aren't funny to me."
"Funny books," Cayson tried.
I shook my head again.
They sighed. It had been seven years since I'd smiled with true happiness. I could fake a smile, but even then it felt weird on my face. And laughing? That was out of the question. I couldn't even remember what my laugh sounded like.
"I can fake a smile, if you want," I said.
They both looked offended.
"No," Cayson said, narrowing his eyes.
Keon gave me a secretive smile. "You won't be faking anything with us, love."
I blinked. He wasn't just talking about happiness, was he?
Both of their smiles fell and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that my eyes were glowing. The damn things turned on by themselves. If I could control it, they would have never seen it to begin with.
I clenched my teeth and turned away. "I'm going to go shower."
"Need help," Keon asked.
I glared at him. "I'm not the one that needs help. Get your libidos in check."
Both of them snorted out a laugh and continued laughing as I walked out of the dining room and towards the bedroom I was staying in. I made sure to lock the door after I shut it, just in case they thought it'd be a good idea to barge in on me.
I stilled when I saw Seth on my bed.
He looked up and grinned. "I was half expecting them to take you to their room and claim you."
I raised my eyebrows.
"I wanted to apologize." He stood to his full height and walked over to me. "I didn't mean to make you angry, I just wanted to know what happened to make you the way you are."
The way that I was? Angry? Full of an unspeakable hatred of alphas? Anyone could figure out why just by knowing who my parents were.
He slid his feet so that the point of his shoes touched mine. He bent down ever so slightly, reaching a hand behind my head to rest on the wall. Heat radiated off him in waves.
He was too close.
"I would back up, if I were you," I said.
He tilted his head. It seemed like he suddenly realized his proximity to me and stepped away like I burned him. He stared at me with a mixture of confusion and shock before he turned his back on me and walked back to the bed.
He sat down and watched me intently, as if he couldn't quite figure me out.
"I understand why you did it," I finally said. "No need to apologize."
