Yongguk
I stood facing the two eldest children that I have, looking at them with those eyes that could kill them literally. On the right, is my only daughter Bang Sera who promised to pick her youngest brother after school when she is all done with school but she didn't. But she did text me to notify me about her not being able to pick Sehyun up and I didn't see that text until a few hours ago.
On the left, is Bang Sejeong. my badminton loving eldest son who only cares about badminton and nothing else. He was tasked to pick his younger brother up but he didn't know that he had to until I called him in the middle of training.
They could've just called each other instead of asking me to pass messages from one to the other but they chose not to, in the course of the entire afternoon, they didn't communicate with each other but instead only waited for me to respond, leaving Sehyun all alone waiting outside the doorstep, hoping that one of them would be coming back home to open the door for him. But they didn't.
"I was in a meeting the entire afternoon and I entrusted the picking up of Sehyun to the two of you, you two didn't do your job well and you two disappoint me a lot. I want to hear an explanation from both of you, honestly." I told the two of them. "Sera, you first."
She took a deep sigh. "Fine. I had something that came up at the last minute and I had to go no matter what."
"What is that one thing?"
"School, the teacher had a last minute remedial and we had to attend. No one is to skip and so I went for it. I told you via text that I wouldn't be able to pick up Sehyun because of that remedial."
She is lying... "I called your homeroom teacher just earlier and she told me that school ended at the same time as any other day, there aren't any last-minute remedies as well. So, where the hell did you even go to, Bang Sera?"
She silently cursed and I smiled to myself. "You need not confess to me right now if you don't want Sejeong to know about it," I told her and I turned to face Sejeong. "Now, your side of the story."
"Appa, the truth is out. There is no need for me to say my side of the story, Bang Sera is wrong on this matter and she should be grounded." He waved a lazy goodbye. "I'm going to bed."
"Who said that you can leave the room without my approval?" I raised my voice. "This is a matter that the three of us were at fault, we are all at fault. Sera, you sneaked out when you should be picking up Sehyun and you lied to me that you had school. Sejeong, you failed at communicating with your sister because you only cared about your badminton. And I, your father failed to see that the two of you didn't communicate with each other and I didn't reply back to you in time, Sera."
"Appa, you're not a failure." Sera corrected me.
"Just inform me when you want to go out and not lie to me anymore," I told her and turned towards Sejeong. "Please be more involved in your own family and communicate with your sister."
"I am!" He glared at his sister. "She is the one who refused to speak to me."
"Me? You're so involved in your training that you don't even talk to anyone in this family." She glared back at her brother and I swear that I just saw some sparks coming from each other's eyes and it is not a good one - they are one second away from killing each other.
"Before you guys decide to kill each other, please keep it down because Sehyun is sleeping right now. He will wake up and cry if he hears any loud noises." I told them and the starting battle between the two of them stopped instantly.
"Good. I don't want to see any bloodshed. Today is a good day, don't ruin that. And I have some good news for the two of you." They said nothing and I continued with the good news that I was going to tell them. "I've hired a babysitter."
Sera raised an eyebrow in confusion. "For Sehyun? You're finally going to do that?"
"Not only Sehyun but the three of you, I have hired her to take care of you guys when I am at work. Since none of you is adults yet, it is dangerous to have such minors at home and not to repeat today's mistake."
"You could've just hired it for Sehyun, we can take care of ourselves," Sejeong said the same time. "But who is it? Is she pretty?"
"You guys will be seeing her tomorrow, she is a professional babysitter and I'm not afraid to leave the three of you in her care," I said and I tapped my fingers on the desk. "Any questions?"
They shook their heads and I gestured them to get out of my room. "Go to bed, children. I'll see you guys in the morning." The two bowed down and left the room as fast as their legs could take them.
I let out a sigh of relief as I have just handled today's case of trouble, meetings held at work were so much easier than at home when I have to face my children. They never listen to what I have told and they made me scold them over and over again, which hurts my heart a lot. It is a sigh of me not being able to take care of them without her...
They used to be so obedient when she is still around in the family but not anymore, ever since she mentioned to leave the family one night after one of our big fights. She left in her suitcase that has most of her belongings, all of it contained everything but my love for her. She left the love that she had for me here.
