Amara's P.O.V
When it comes to Chris's performances, I tend to wear something a little more edgier than my usual aesthetic. I wore some black shorts and fishnet tights along with a Guns and Roses t-shirt. My hair was teased a little. Chris made me go shopping with her once so I could be "dressed for the occasion". And occasion, I mean her concerts or her after parties.
"You look different," I heard. I turned to see Brennan standing by my door frame.
"I wear this kind of stuff when I got to Chris's performances," I tell him.
"Looks good," Brennan said, looking at me up and down.
"Thanks," I smile. I heard my phone ring causing me to look down. I saw Travis's ID picture (which was a funny candid photo of him). I answered the call before holding my phone up to my ear. I looked over to see Brennan gone.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hi babe," Travis said before letting out a cough.
"Hey. Are you okay?" I asked him.
"I can't go to Chris's performance tonight. I'm feeling a little sick and I hate to get you sick," Travis tells me.
"Oh I'm sorry. Maybe I should come over and take care of you," I tell him.
"No. I don't want to get you sick. Go support Chris. I'll be better before the beach day on Thursday," Travis tells me.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yeah. Go have fun tonight. I love you," Travis tells me.
"I love you too," I tell him.
I hung up before letting out a sigh. I hated going to Chris's performances alone. One it was lonely without someone with me and two, guys would hit on me and it made me uncomfortable. When I started dating Travis, he always made it even more fun and safe. That's when I thought about who I could take.
"Brennan?" I called out before walking out.
"Yes?" He asked.
"Do you wanna go to my friend's performance with me?" I asked. Brennan walked out of his room before looking at me.
"What?"
"Do you wanna go to my friend's performance with me?" I asked.
"What about your boyfriend?" He asked me.
"Travis is sick. Please? I hate going alone. Guys try to hit on me and I get uncomfortable," I tell him. Brennan let out a small sigh.
"Alright. Let me get dressed. I'm pretty sure I'll stick out if I'm dressed in a suit."
"Alright. I'll wait in the living room," I tell him.
As I watched Keeping Up With the Kardashians, I was looking at some wedding ideas on Pinterest. As much as I didn't want to get married, I knew I'd be screwed without my family. Being with Chris after graduation would be great but I knew she was focused on her music career and I didn't want to be in the way of anything.
"Are you ready?" I looked up to see Brennan in some black jeans and a classic rock t-shirt. I was surprised. He looked normal.
"Wow. You look different," I said with a small giggle.
"Funny. So where's the performance at?" Brennan asked me.
"Some band club downtown," I tell him.
"Alright."
"Let's go," I said before getting up.
There were a lot of people here. It wasn't too shocking since Chris and her band were getting noticed more and more.
"So is this what the pre-concert looks like every time?" Brennan asked me.
"More or less," I tell him.
"I see."
"Please welcome to the stage, The Lost Punks," I saw Chris walk onto stage with her band making me clap.
The first song was a fast pacing song. The second one was the same and a couple guys started a mosh pit. The third one got me surprised.
"This next one's a bit of a slow song. We're just gonna take it down a notch," Chris said. It was her and one of her other band mates on the guitar while another was on the piano. The song was a love song.
"Can I have this dance?" Brennan asked me. I looked up at him.
"What?" I asked.
"Can I have this dance?" Brennan asked me, holding his hand out for me. I didn't want to be rude but at the same time, if someone saw us... I can't hurt Travis any more.
"It's just a small, platonic dance," Brennan tells me.
I placed my hand on his before we made our way towards the middle a little more. There were other couples dancing as well. Brennan put his hand on my waist before holding my hand with his free one. I put my hand on his shoulder as we started to dance to the music.
"This is a good song," Brennan tells me.
"Yeah. It is," I tell him.
"Did Chris write this herself?" Brennan asked me.
"No. It's a cover," I tell him.
"I see."
"Thanks for coming with me to this. I know this isn't really your scene," I tell him.
"I'm glad you invited me," Brennan said.
"Brennan, do you think we're ready to get married?" I asked him.
"Honestly? I'm not sure," Brennan tells me.
"I'm a little scared," I tell him.
"Why's that?"
"I feel like I'm about to give up my life to be your wife," I tell him.
"You don't have to. You can still be the person you want to be. You being my wife is just a little addition," Brennan tells me.
"I would just feel bad if I never end up falling in love with you," I tell him.
"Don't worry about me too much, Amara. As your soon to be husband, it's my job to take care of you," Brennan says.
"But-"
"No buts. Trust me, Amara. You ask for the respect you need and I will give it to you," Brennan tells me.
"Thank you Brennan. That means a lot to me," I smiled at him.
