Thirty Five

Amara's P.O.V

"What's up with the conservative outfit?" Jessica asked me.

"My parents is coming over and I haven't told them about Brennan and I being together," I tell her.

"So you have to dress like a daughter of a conservative?"

"Kinda. That's how I was raised," I shrugged.

"Well have fun with your dinner tonight," Jessica smiled.

"I feel nervous," I tell her.

"Why?"

"I'm just afraid of what they're going to say," I tell her.

"After all the bullshit they put you through? You shouldn't be scared of what they have to say. They need to let you live your life instead of having it set up for you," Jessica said.

"Honestly, what would I do without you or Chris?" I asked.

"I don't know. But if your parents are against this, give them hell," Jessica winked.

My parents picked me up before we went to Brennan's house. I sat nervously in the back seat as I looked at the two of them.

"So why did you and Brennan set up this dinner with us and his family?"

"It's just a get together mom," I tell her.

"Okay. Okay."

"Save the talking for the dinner table, Sandra. We won't have anything to talk about if you keep asking her questions now," my dad pointed out. I smiled over at him a little.

"Oh fine."

Once we got to Brennan's place, I stood behind my parents as usual. My mom rang the doorbell before Brennan's mom opened the door.

"Sandra, Kenneth, and Amara! So glad you three are here," Mrs. Kindell said.

"Hello, Rosie," my mom greeted as she gave her a hug.

"Hi, Rosie," my dad smiled.

"Hey, Mrs. Kindell," I greeted.

"Come in," Mrs. Kindell ushered. We walked inside Brennan's penthouse where I saw him having a drink with his father. He looked over at me and smiled.

"Amara, how's school?" Mrs. Kindell asked me.

"It's great."

"That's good. Are there any guys in your life?"

"Just one," I tell her.

"You have a boyfriend?" My mom asked me.

"Dinner's ready!" Brennan announced.

We all sat around the table. Me and my parents on one side while Brennan sat on the other side with his parents. I sat across from Brennan who kept sneaking glances at me. I did as well hence why we kept making eye contact.

"So Amara, you mentioned that you have a boyfriend?" Mrs. Kindell asked.

"A boyfriend?" My dad asked confused.

"Yes."

"What's his name? And does he go to school with you?" Mom questioned.

"Well actually, it's Brennan. We just connected again and are trying things off but in our own terms," I said.

"You two are dating again?!" Mrs. Kindell gasped.

"Yes. And Mr. Lowell, I promise you that I won't hurt Amara's feelings if you allow me to date her," Brennan said.

"After everything you both went through, you two still want to be together?" My mom asked.

"Yes. And what like Amara said, we will be within our own terms. So if we decide to get married, I will propose to her when I think it's right. I'm tired of having my choices being made for me," Brennan tells his parents.

"We're just doing what's best for you."

"I know but for once, let me decide for myself. And right now, I decided that I want to be with Amara," Brennan smiled at me.

"This is... surprising," my mom said in shock.

"What made you two want to start over?" Mrs. Kindell asked.

"Well we've spent some time together and decided to start over," Brennan told her.

"Oh yeah?"

"Yes. And right now, I would like to change the subject now if you all don't mind," Brennan said.

"Please," I said softly.

"Alright."

I offered to help Brennan clean up after dinner. I washed the dishes while Brennan cleaned up the table.

"That went well," Brennan told me.

"A little too well," I tell him.

"Well you did great," Brennan said as he kissed the top of my head.

"I'm surprised that your parents didn't mention the other arranged marriage they had for you," I tell Brennan.

"I know. But let's not focus on that right now. I'm with you now," Brennan told me.

Brennan leaned down to give me a kiss on the lips. I smiled at him softly after he pulled away.

"I'm yours now and you're mine okay?"

"Okay," I smiled.
