Amara's P.O.V
I lied in Chris's bed as we watched Legally Blonde. We were eating ice cream as we watched Reese Witherspoon win the case. We heard a knock on the door making Chris get up to open it.
"Hi mom," Chris smiled before getting back on the bed.
"How's the patient?" Mrs. Grove asked.
"I'm fine," I tell her.
"Well, your mother called me and asked if you're alright," She told me as she sat on the bed.
"I'm alright."
"That's what I told her. Also, Brennan dropped you off some stuff," Mrs. Grove said, giving me a bag.
"Brennan didn't fight his way to see Amara?" Chris asked her mom.
"No. He said that he didn't want to cause any commotion but he did want to give this to you at least since you might run out of clothes depending how long you are staying with us," Mrs. Grove said.
"Thank you, Mrs. Grove," I tell her. Once she left, Chris and I looked through the bag. The first thing I read was the note.
Dear Amara,
I'm sorry for what happened at your graduation party. I hope to tell you in person when you are ready to listen. I put in some new clothes, a pair of shoes, and a credit card in case if you'd like to go shopping or do something with Chris. I hope you're okay and I hope you talk to me soon.
- Brennan
"So?" Chris asked me.
"I should talk to him," I tell her.
"Is that what you want to do?" Chris asked me.
"Yes."
"Okay."
I texted Brennan to meet me at Panera Bread. After getting showered and changed into new clothes, Chris drove over to the restaurant. Before I could get out of the car, Chris pulled out some binoculars.
"Is that even necessary?" I asked her.
"I'm just going to observe the area," Chris said.
"Alright. Just, stay far and hidden away," I tell her.
"Fine."
We walked over to the restaurant where I saw Brennan sitting alone. I walked inside first and sat in front of Brennan.
"Um, I think you'd want this back," I said as I gave Brennan his credit card back.
"Keep it, Amara. Think of it as a sorry gift."
"You know I can't be bought right?"
"I know but this is just for now."
"Thank you."
"Amara. I can explain everything," Brennan told me.
"Please do. And just to let you know, Chris is watching us with binoculars," I tell her.
"I know. Beatrice is watching us with binoculars in her car," Brennan said.
"Really?"
"Yes. She was not happy on Nicole announcing that she was pregnant."
"Who is Nicole?" I asked him.
"She was my ex girlfriend. I was with her before I found out about the arrange marriage and I broke up with her. However, I did have sex with her without protection and I guess she's with my child," Brennan said.
"Where is she living right now?" I asked him.
"The house. I can't abandon her if she is carrying my child. I hope you understand," Brennan told me.
"I do. And I hope you both will be very happy with your child," I tell him.
"What are you talking about?" Brennan asked.
"I don't want to interfere with your life with your child. You and Nicole should live together and raise your child together."
"What about the arrange marriage?"
"We can sort that out another time with our parents. But I think you should be with Nicole," I assure to him.
"No. Amara, I want to be with you."
"I want to be with you as well but I can't be with you because of the child. They need you more than you need me right now."
"Amara, please."
"I'm sorry, Brennan. I'll see you soon okay."
I got up before walking over outside. I looked behind me to see Chris walking over. I smiled at her as she put her arm around me.
"He is really upset," Chris told me.
"There's not much I could say or do now. He should be with her and their child," I tell her.
"Hello Amara. Amara's friend," Beatrice greeted as she walked over to us.
"Hey, Beatrice. How's everything?" I asked her.
"Really shitty right now. How come you told Brennan that he should stay with Nicole? I don't want her as a sister-in-law."
"Wait, I didn't see you in the restaurant," Chris pointed out.
"In my car looking through my binoculars like you," Beatrice winked.
"Well, we should probably get back to Chris's house," I tell her.
"Or, we can go shopping. You need to get out of the house," Chris told me.
"Why don't we go shopping ladies?" Beatrice said.
"I think that's a great idea," Chris said. The two girls looked at me in case if I had objected to the idea.
"Alright. Let's go," I tell them.
"Perfect! Come on."
