Jimin's bedroom door was closed, but there was a soft yellow light flooding from the space under the door that told Seulgi he was home. She sighed and felt her heart contract at the pain of hurting someone she cared for so much.
Fate.
Taehyung and Jungkook had both mentioned fate, but why? What if their fate was the two of them being like this, having this grey space between them for the rest of their lives? What if they never go back to that point in life where they were so happy? Where did that go?
She tiptoed through the living room and into her room, closing the door until there was only a small slit open. Papers were piled on her desk along with all of her textbooks and old school notebooks. Laughing to herself, she dropped her dance bag and went to the small desk, sifting through past papers and crumpled, messed up notes.
Sis didn't get a scholarship for nothing.
There were pens everywhere of every colour of the rainbow and she started her mini hunt to collect them. By the end of a difficult ten minutes, she'd looked in basically every corner of her room for the pens, but only found nine out of the ten pens that had come with the pack.
How did I manage to remember how many pens I bought but not... everything else?
She shook her head and flopped into her swivel chair before lining all the pens up side by side in colour order.
Damn, the missing pen is my purple one. Maybe if I leave the issue alone first...
So Seulgi left her messy desk and line of pens to have a shower. She let the hot water run through her strands of hair and down her spine as the steam clouded the bathroom. She stayed in the bathroom for an unknown length of time for the first time in forever. By the end of it, the sun had almost completely set and the marble floors were slick with condensation. She took her time changing into soft shorts and a big t-shirt before she continued on her cleaning quest.
Papers were separated into two boxes labelled 'useless' and 'useful'. By the end of that, she had gotten the worse done and over with, and only had to line her textbooks up on her shelf and sort out her pens.
But still no sight of the purple one.
A deep navy shade with silver stars took the place of the sunset and Seulgi had clicked her lights on. She proceeded to look through her entire room again, checking every corner for the third time before resorting to flopping onto her bed.
Where could it have gon-
Suddenly a lightbulb flashed above her head (metaphorically) and she shot up. Seulgi tied her now dry hair into a messy bun at the top of her head and moved back to her desk, this time bending down beside it. She stood and picked her phone from her sports bag and switched the flashlight on before shooting the bright light along the back of the desk that was pushed against the wall.
There, in all it's glittery glory, was her purple pen. Her beautiful, metallic, purple pen. She mentally pat herself on her back and stood the phone against the desk so that it would still shine light on her pen. Then, she carefully pushed her neat desk (absent of a million papers and some textbooks) backwards before reaching in for her pen. Her face squished against the side of the desk and her arm was straining to get it, but she managed and pulled it out, only looking at it as she stood.
The metallic ink reflected the moonlight and a sudden force hit Seulgi in the chest. Her free hand instinctively reached for her desk, only for the fingers to slap against the surface with a crack as she stumbled backwards into her bed. She knew there wasn't really a force, but a dull but strong pain shot through her heart. Her knees buckled and she fell to the floor with a thunderous thud, the pain still ever-present, fingers still wrapped around the thin figure of the pen. It must've been loud enough to alert someone because her room door was pushed open quite forcefully as a concerned blond popped into the room.
"Seulgi what the fu-" His eyes widened at the sight of her on her knees. He couldn't see her face, but her entire body was shaking and her breaths were only being taken in smalls sips. He was frozen in panic for a few seconds until he finally acted. Jimin leaped in front of her and saw fear in her dark eyes, sweat beading on her forehead.
"Seulgi? Can you hear me?" He brushed his hair from his eyes and grabbed her hands- except he couldn't get his fingers around one. There was a purple pen in her hand and he slipped it out of her grip, and as soon as he placed the pen aside, her body went limp and fell into his chest like cooked spaghetti. Panic shot through him again, but he felt oddly timed gasps and knew she was crying. Slowly, he shifted so that the side of her head was against his chest.
And she cried.
He let her.
The moonlight was flooding the room now, her sheer curtains still completely slid open. Seulgi was warm, but she felt cold. She shivered in Jimin's hold, only giving him a reason to wrap her in his arms more. After what felt like ages, her crying and slowed to small sniffles and she lifted her head to look at Jimin.
His eyes were shut and a silent tear fell from one.
"J-Jimin?" Her voice was barely a whisper, but in the silence of the room, Jimin heard it loud and clear.
"Seulgi?" He wiped his tear away hastily and loosened his hold on her as she sat against her bed. "Are you okay? What happened?"
"I don't know." She curled her knees to her chest and Jimin turned to face her. The purple pen was just a couple of centimetres from her, seemingly innocent, but she knew it had a role in this. She stared at it and Jimin noticed, turning his own vision from her to the pen.
"The pen?" He pressed.
"I don't know." Seulgi repeated and dropped her head into her arms, exhaustion taking a toll on her. Her entire body was weighed down with fatigue and she felt as if she couldn't move. Complete silence took over the room and Seulgi slowly lifted her head to see if Jimin was still there, and he was.
"I can't trust you to sleep here alone." He blurted in a low tone. Seulgi blinked slowly and dropped her head down again. It was the last thing she remembered him saying before she felt arms slip under her. Then darkness as sleep took her.
