When the two of them appeared at the edge of the living room, they were greeted with a smattering of applause. Even Haelee's little palms had dropped her toys and were smacking together, a glittery smile on her face, even though she had no clue what was happening.
"So, you guys are okay?" Namjoon's eyebrows lifted as he eyed their hands. The two of them looked at each other and smiled.
"We're working on it." Taehyung's lips curled up slowly. He eyed the little girl on the floor, her eyes sparkling like her mom's, and her lips thick like her dad's. His eyes lit up and his smile exploded on his cheeks as he ripped his hand out of Jungkook's and raced to pick her up.
"Haelee!" He brought her close to his face and she giggled.
"Uncle Taetae." She smiled against his cheek and he hugged her even tighter, falling onto the sofa.
"I feel replaced." Jungkook sighed, but there was still a smile on his face as he spied his boyfriend's elated expression.
"You know, I wanted to call you out earlier to help with dinner but Jimin said for me to leave you guys alone and now I'm concerned." He paused and the two younger men looked at him with wide eyes, frozen at his seriousness. "I hope y'all didn't do the dirty in my house."
Silence.
Jin's eyes grew wider and he placed his hands on his hips, "DID Y'ALL ACTUALLY DO THE DIRTY IN MY HOLY HOUSEHOLD?!"
"This household is far from holy," Yoongi muttered and Jin shot him a laser sharp glare.
"Chill hyung, we didn't." Taehyung finally laughed, his gaze still trained on the little girl bouncing on her lap.
"Mhmm."
The room fell into silence again, but this time everyone was calm and comfortable. No tension, no anger, just calm. They basked in each other's happiness until a rumbling noise thundered out.
There was an awkward silence before Jin burst into a small fit of giggles, "Sorry, cookies aren't enough for me." Everyone began to laugh, full, hearty laughs and headed towards the dining room.
The nine of them sat together in the dining room, a simple but modern chandelier hung neatly above their heads. Throughout the apartment, stories from the past year were told.
After they graduated, everyone had moved away and lived their lives, and apart from the occasional call for a life update or a plea for help, each had their own paths to follow. Of course, a large portion of their childhood was spent together, especially the boys, and those were memories that could not possibly be forgotten.
"...and they were room mates." The table burst into laughter as Jimin retold a story of two students from their university who fell in love, a story he had heard and seen during his stay in that pale yellow building, of the residents down the hall.
"Sounds familiar." Yoongi mumbled, smiling to himself. Only Seulgi heard as she was sat between him and Jimin, and she elbowed him in the side gently, giggling to herself.
Eventually the scrumptious delicacies began to disappear into hungry bellies as the night wore on, and there was nothing left but crumbs and smiles.
"It's unfortunate this night has to end." Jin spoke as Taehyung finished off a story from his and Jungkook's weekend in Daegu. A chorus of agreeing hums broke out. The sun had set way below the horizon, and the moon was hanging in the midst of the stars. Haelee let out a tiny yawn and was beginning to blink slower, resting her head on her arms that were folded on the table. Jimin laughed and pulled her into his lap, resting her head on his shoulder and rubbing her back gently.
"Maybe we should start heading home." He said softly. Seulgi stood, scraping her chair backwards as Jimin did the same. The rest stood and gradually made their way to the front door to see the two off.
"Night guys, we'll see you soon." Seulgi smiled after giving her final hug to Taehyung.
She sighed and took her child from her husband's arms as he went to bid his goodbyes to his lifelong brothers. She watched as he gave tight hugs all around, their sea of oddly colored hair mixing as they hugged.
"Bye guys." Jimin finally spoke. The entire group walked into the carpeted hallway outside the Hyung Apartment and waved the couple as they turned the corner to the elevator section. The two heard the front door click shut as the elevator opened its cold doors.
"You know, it always feels like we're never gonna see them again." Seulgi said softly.
"Yeah," Jimin laughed, "But we can't stay apart for long."
