Sean POV
Closing the door behind me, I paused and took a moment to just clear my mind. Turning, I walked towards Owen. He was standing by his car door staring down the street toward Sang's house. He had a thoughtful look in his eyes. Stopping right next to him, I placed my hand on his shoulder and comforted him softly. "It will be okay Owen."
He huffed and turned his turbulent eyes to me. "How bad is it Sean." I weighed his words. Part of me knew he was asking about my converstation with Pookie this morning, but I wasn't ready to go their with him right now. So I deflected.
"They will come around. You know how headstrong they both are in their own ways. I thought Kota would be the biggest hurdle, but now I think it will be Nathan. I don't think any of us realized how deep his wounds are when it comes to his mother. We will have to address that soon." I said, meaning every word. Nathan's response tonight had made me realize his issues were bigger than just jealousy.
"You know that is not what I mean Sean." He said thorugh gritted teeth. I winced. Damnit. Sighing I dropped my hand from his shoulder and crossed my arms over my chest. What to say?
"It's not great. We have made a lot of bad decisions thinking we were doing what was best, but being rather short sighted. And honestly, you and I are so far removed, who knows how much damage the boys have done. I would say a lot, but I also know she was just venting."
"How...How do I fix it?" He asked with more vulnerability then I expected him to show. I thought hard. I didn't want to hurt him. The boys had already done a number on him tonight and I didn't want to add to it. But I didn't want to lie to him either.
"You can't Owen. Not on your own." He looked down, and I could see his heavy sigh. "But, if you want her to be apart of this family, you need to start showing her that." His eyes snapped up.
"I do, I...she knows that I do." He said, sounding lost. I just shook my head sadly.
"Owen, treating her as an equal or as a normal part of our team isn't going to work because she isn't our equal." I could see he was about to dispute that so I hurried on. "She is our heart. She is our center. She is so much more than just a member of our team. And she needs to feel that. From all of us." I stared him straight in the eye, praying he got what I was trying to say. "She has no idea Owen." He paled slightly. Im not sure if he understood completely, but I couldn't really say much more. After another moment he cleared his throat.
"Well I should go. I still need to call Dr. Roberts and try and find out more about this meeting on Wednesday. Have a good night Sean. Take care of her." He moved to get in the car but I stopped him and pulled him close. He stiffened at first but then relaxed and hugged me back for about half a minute before pulling away.
"Goodnight Brother." I said. He nodded, got in the car and pulled away.
I started walking toward Pookie's and pulled my phone out to check any missed messages I may have from the hospital. Waiting there, was a message from my girl.
Pookie: Hi. I just wanted to let you know Im heading over to talk to Derrik. I will probably be home before you get there but just in case.
Frowning, I reread the message again. Why would she need to talk to Derrik this late at night. Or at all? I noticed the time stamp was for 745 and it was about 830 now. I looked up at her house to her window. The lights were off. If she was back the light would be on, or she would have told me. Frowning harder I looked over at Derrik's house. There were no lights on at all.
Sean: Pookie, where are you?
I waited very unpatiently. Every second had my heart beating faster. Finally my phone vibrated.
