Playing the Field: Midoriya x Reader

Day 5 of 1k Follower x Reader Week!

“Young Midoriya focus!” All Might demanded from Midoriya for the hundredth time today. Midoriya lied on his back upon the sand, sweating and panting in exhaustion. We all know that All Might is the Number One Pro Hero right now at the moment, nobody has been able to defeat him in a fight. It only made sense that his disciple, Izuku Midoriya, cannot keep up with the beast in a fight nor come close to even harming him in one way or another. Something about today felt off, All Might couldn't help but to think. Midoriya’s movements came off as miscalculated, half baked, traced with lag like an old video game. As if something was bugging the teenager or there were an injury All Might should know about but doesn't. Maybe it were none of the above…

“Midoriya get off the ground and show me what you’re made of!!!” The brute stood tall and proud, flexing his chest muscles and tightening his arms with a low grunt. The sleeves of his white t-shirt were expanding, threads wearing out and snapping. Midoriya broke his gaze from the rough sandy beach watching All Might be all full of himself, sneak attack! Midoriya quietly got to his feet, tiptoed in the sand to avoid leaving larger foot prints and hid behind a bank of sand away from his mentor’s piercing blue eyes. Midoriya cursed the day he successfully cleared up this entire beach of litter, there’s no potential weapons or hiding places now…

“Oh… Where did he go?” All Might snapped out of his self indulged thoughts realizing the green haired boy was nowhere to be seen. The brute felt a tap at his backside, peering over his shoulder, the blonde found Midoriya sprawled out behind him, clutching onto his right fist. All Might chuckled, poofing out of existence into his weakened form and leaned forwards on his spot looming over the battered Midoriya. “Was that your idea of an attack? I hardly felt a thing!” Toshinori rubbed into Midoriya’s face with a blood sputtering chuckle.

“Sorry All Might…” Midoriya sighed.

“Don’t get yourself all upset you still have a long ways to go,” Toshinori reassured offering up a hand. Midoriya graciously took the offer, being lifted up to his feet. Midoriya’s body were covered head to toe in purpling bruises and open sand encrusted cuts and gashes. Toshinori hasn’t seen Midoriya this battered in such a long time. On top of that, Midoriya rarely kept his words to himself making the boy unusually quiet.  “Life got you down my boy?” Toshinori asked genuinely interested in what the boy had to say.

“My mind has been in Cloud 9 for a while now sir,” Midoriya huffed, rubbing his bruised cheek. That depressed frown melted away into a pure lip curling grin.

“That means you have a girl on the mind,” Toshinori sheepishly taunts Midoriya without a thought. This scene were played with his heart, a boy in love! He were interested no doubt, in fact, Toshinori were beginning to think Midoriya only had his heroic self on the mind and everything else were the last priority. Girls do exist on his little disciple’s genius mind after all.

Midoriya perked up, nodding his head. “Is it obvious that I have eyes on someone All Might?” Midoriya shyly asked of him, hoping this conversation weren’t too personal even for his role model.

“Besides your lack of attention in our fights, you're not at all obvious,” Toshinori cheered his little disciple up and waved for him to follow on over to a swinging bench seat right on the sandy shore of the beach. The swing was painted rather recently, slick and reflected in the sunset's light. The boys took a seat side by side, allowing Midoriya to continue this man to man talk. “I’m assuming you want to date this girl if you’re opening up to me right?” Toshinori started up the conversation expecting it to be too awkward for Midoriya being he was an innocent and well mannered boy for his age.

“Right! I-I hope you don’t mind,” skittish as always, Midoriya was red in the face.

“Not at all!” Toshinori smirked.
