A/N I was on tumblr right, scrolling through falsettos post and I found an account called Marvin Feldman so that the last name I'm gonna use cause this mf doesn't actually have a last name!
~ 24th March 1943 ~
Cornwall, EnglandThe fire cracked as the small family huddled together. They sat watching and waiting. Waiting for a knock at the door. Waiting for a letter. Waiting for the radio to play. Just waiting. They had done this everyday since the pair had left.
The war, at first, had torn the family apart. To Trina's dismay, Marvin and Whizzer had signed up straight away. They would've dragged Mendel along too, but his health issues got in the way. The family had fought for days until it was time for them to leave. Trina knew it was out of her hands at this point. Jason had sobbed for weeks since they left. But with Cordelia's terrible cooking and Charlotte telling stories about her patients, he was soon distracted. On the chilly March day, each sat with a cup of tea in their hands. Trina was leaning on Mendel, Charlotte and Cordelia were cuddled together under one blanket and Jason sat in between both couples. All was quiet, until the radio turned on.
The small town of Falsettoland had a daily radio show that read out the names of the men women who had left to fight and their current state. MIA, Returning home, KIA or War front. As the list of names went on there was a knock at the door.
Jason ran to answer. He threw the door open and there stood the postman, a yellow piece of paper in hand.
"I'm sorry." The postman said, tipped his hat, and left.
Jason slowly closed the door and shuffled back to the living room.
"What was it?" Trina asked.
"Who was it?" Mendel added.
"Jason?" Cordelia asked. She got up and walked over to him "Are you okay?"
Jason slowly lifted the yellow sheet into view. Trina gasped. Mendel froze. Cordelia wrapped her arms around Jason. Charlotte was the only on strong enough to read it.
I regret to inform you report received states your family members Lieutenant Whizzer Brown and Sergeant Marvin Feldman missing in action in Germany since Twentieth March if further details or other information of their status are received you will be promptly notified
"Their missing...that means they could still be alive...right?" Jason whimpered.
Everyone stayed quiet for they did not know the answer
~ 20th December 1943 ~
It had been a few months since they had received the telegram. The war was far from over. As the group slowly began to accept that they weren't alive, they began to go back to their normal lives. But the house still felt empty.
It was a chilly afternoon. Trina was home alone. Jason was at school. Mendel at work. Cordelia and Charlotte were at their own house. She'd just finished cleaning the stairs when their was a knock at the door.
She swiftly stopped what she was doing and rant to get it. As she opened the door she froze. In front of her was a limp Whizzer laying in Marvin's arms. She pulled them in and Marvin placed Whizzer in the living room.
"What happened to you? We got the telegram saying you were missing." She sobbed as she removed Whizzers old bandages
"I'll will soon" Marvin said as he held Whizzers hand. Trina understood. What ever that had gone through can't have been easy. She applied new bandages to Whizzer's middle and right arm. She then grabbed Marvin and sorted out the bandage that was round his left thigh.
"Does anyone know your here?" She said and Marvin shook his head. "Marvin, go wash and change. I'll watch him." Marvin nodded his head and went up the stairs.
Within a few hours, both men were clean and in warmer clothes. Whizzer has woken up and was eating bowls and bowls of Trina's vegetable soup. Marvin was waiting by the door to surprise Jason.
"When will they get here?" Marvin asked for the tenth time.
"Mendel picks Jason up at 3pm and they get home by 3:30pm. It's only just hit 3" Trina sighed.
"If you stand that close to the door you scare him." Whizzer laughed.
Marvin sighed and sat with Whizzer. Trina grabbed some more blankets and wrapped more blankets around them. Whizzer grabbed hand and pulled her into the sofa. With Marvin on his left and Trina on his right, Whizzer slowly sank into the sofa and fell sleep. Trina soon fell asleep with her head resting on Whizzer's shoulder and Marvin did the same. All was peaceful for once.
It wasn't long before Mendel and Jason came through the door singing "Run-Adolf-Run".
"Trina we're home." Mendel shouted.
"We're in here."
"We're?" Jason questioned. He walked into the living room. "Father! Whizzer!" He smiled and threw himself on them.
"Be careful sweetie, they aren't in the best condition." Trina laughed as she got up to greet Mendel.
"When did you get back?" Mendel smiled as he hugged Trina.
"A few hours ago." Marvin got up and went to hug Mendel.
Once Charlotte and Cordelia had arrived, the family sat round the table once more. Everything felt normal again. It was as though they'd never left in the first place. They caught up on what they missed. Whizzer told stories about their friends in the trenches. Marvin spoke about the training process. But neither one spoke of what happened to them.
As the years went on what lead Marvin and Whizzer back home stayed a mystery. No one dared to ask. No one spoke of the war once it was over. No one ever knew until years later.
Jason was clearing out the house. His sons Kevin and Will (A/N 😉😉) were helping too. No one had lived in it since Marvin died two years ago.
"Dad what's this?" Kevin said holding out a box.
"That's Grandad Marvin's old things" Jason smiled "Why don't you open it."
Will ran over and went through it with Kevin. There was photos of the whole family. Polaroid's of Whizzer. All of Jason's old art work. Unpublished books that Marvin and Mendel had written together. Trina's old recipe books and a photo of them on their wedding day.
"Dad, this is book looks interesting can I read it?" Will asked.
"Sure which one is it."
"Untold war stories..."
Jason turned around. He knelt down I from if Will. "Can I have a look?" Will nodded his head and gave him the book.
"Have you read this one?" Kevin questioned and Jason shook his head. He opens it and the first chapter was titled How We Got Home...
It was a cold night when we went over the top into no mans land. The Germans were shooting at us from all angles. That's when I heard a yell. I dropped to the ground and looked behind me to see Whizzer on the floor. Bleeding from his middle. I slowly crawled over to him. He was fading fast. So I made the riskiest decision I have made. I lifted him up and ran. Not to the Germans. Not back to our trench. But out into the darkness. I heard our own troops shouting at me. But I ran. I don't remember much after that. I just remember arriving in France that had few Germans occupying it. We hoped on a small fishing boat. But half way home, it got shot down. We both got shot that time. But Whizzer was weak so I threw him in my back and I swam the rest of the way. When we got to the beaches I saw my old school teacher. He drove us to our house and that's when our story stops because everything went smoothly from then on
