The world needs more honest things so let's start with an honest statement.

Mendel Weisenbachfeld had no friends. The only friends he had were the books in library (Which is where he spent most of his time) Mendel was the quiet kid in the back of the class. No one knew he was there. But there was a good thing that came with being quiet. He knew everyone's secret. He wrote them all down in a book.

Whenever Cordelia bakes something for Charlotte, Charlotte won't eat it. Instead she feed it to the lizard in biology.

Cordelia knows how to bake. She doesn't like baking things properly though because she doesn't want attention.

Evan still isn't over Connor and the whole fiasco that went down. He has the cast in his bag.

Kevin Price and Connor McKinley. The worst Mormons in History. But tbh thats not a secret.

At every party Micheal hides in the bathroom. People think he goes to spike pit but he cries.

That weird Will kid, who thinks he's Shakespeare, had a really bad childhood. He uses literature as a way to show his feelings without saying it. People just think it's acting.

The list went on for the whole book. But there was one spot left. It was left for a girl called Trina.

Mendel had loved Trina since he first met her in first grade. The only problem, they had never spoken. He hadn't got anything on her because he always avoided her. She could look at home and he would faint. But Trina had no idea he was there.

Mendel was hanging out at the school library before school started when he saw her crying behind a bookcase. His first instinct was to run and hide but, as he sobs got louder, he couldn't turn away from her. He grabbed his things and made his way round the corner. He took a deep breath and spoke up.

"Hey Trina. Are you okay?" Mendel sat opposite her.

"Not really. It's Mendel isn't it?" She smiled.

She knows my name. She knows who I am. I think I'm gonna pass out. Mendel nodded. "Tell me what's wrong. It's not like I'm gonna tell anyone. I have no friends to tell"

This made Trina laugh a little. She tap the spot next to her and Mendel moved there. He held his breath as she rested her head in his shoulder. "You don't mind me doing this do you? It's just that I'm embarrassed to look someone in the eyes and tell them."

"It's fine. As long as your comfy."

"Right so I was going out with Marvin. Keyword was. He's been cheating on me for 6 months with our best friend. " She mumbled.

"Smack them. " Mendel joked and Trina giggle. She sat in silence for a bit. She  hadn't giggle since she first started dating Marvin.

"Anyway I caught them just now. I go to Marvin's house every morning. Whizzer is usually there before me and Marvin drives us to school. But I guess they lost track of time because as I opened the door they're fucking each other on the couch. I mean the couch right by the front door. They didn't even hunk about the effects it would have on me. I mean it's not everyday your boyfriend and your best friend do that to you. And I can't even think straight anymore because of it. Well I guess they can't think straight either" Trina rambled.

"Woah woah woah. Breathe Trina." Mendel rubbed her back. "Everything will be alright."

"The worst part is I don't hate them together. I think their a cute couple. It just hurts my heart" She began to cry again.

"Trina listen to me. They both fucked up. They're both assholes. But think of it this way. You haven't lost your friends if you're happy for them. At least you know about them. Yeah, it's not a nice thing to find out but better to know than them sneak around till college. Plus, you've gained a new friend out of all of this." Mendel smiled at her as she lifted her head.

"Yeah I guess I have." Trina smiled back "Thanks Mendel. Do you wanna meet at lunch? I'm going to talk to Whizzer and Marvin and, I think I'll need you for moral support."

And that's exactly what he did. He stood by her as they spoke. Over the course of the year, he grew closer to Trina and Whizzer. However, Marvin still hadn't warmed up to him. And no one knew why. But no one was thinking about that because prom was coming up.

Mendel was nervous. He wanted to ask Trina. But he was afraid of rejection. He hadn't rejected her when they started dating. But he still had that fear in the out of his stomach. He paced the field while he waited. In the distance he saw Marvin walking over to him.

"Can we talk?" Marvin smiled and Mendel nodded.

"What's up?" Mendel asked.

"Look I know I've been horrible to you and that I haven't been the best person in the world. But it's because, even though I'm not with Trina anymore I still love her. She's like family to me now. I just don't want to see her upset. I know she like you and I know you like her. And I can't bare to see her go through what I put her through again. I guess I just wanted to know I could trust you before I accepted you two." Marvin confessed.

"I get it. You two were together for a long time. But thank you for tell me, and for trusting me" Mendel offered his hand for Marvin to shake. Marvin pushed it away and pulled him into a hug.

"Guys! Guys!" Whizzer yelled as he ran over "Trina is coming!"

"Whizzer Brown if you ever make me run again I will...what's all this?" She smiled.

Marvin had turned on the fairy lights and Whizzer had let the balloons go.

"Trina I love you. You know that. And I was wondering if you wanted to go to Prom with me?" Mendel asked and Trina laughed.

"You didn't have to ask silly. I would have gone with you anyway." Trina replied making all four of them laugh.

Marvin and Whizzer came from behind the tree and hugged the two.

Mendel couldn't believe it. He went from having no friend. To having friend and a girlfriend. He went from writing everything down in a book to telling all his friend. He went from having nothing with Trina to have something with Trina. Trina was the one for him. She would be for the rest of time. Through college. After college. When they got engaged. When they got married. When they had their first child. When they retired.

It was a cold winters morning. A 76-year-old Trina was packing away some of Mendel's a week after his funeral. She smiled as she saw a picture of her husband and her two friend when they were at prom. She felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around to see Whizzer. It was just them left now.

"I found this in the other room. It's was his from high school" Whizzer said. They both sat on the bed and began to read.

Mendel's Book of People's Secrets

The pair laughed as they read through some of them. The last entry was from a day after Marvin died.

I said back in college, that as soon as one of us dies I'll stop writing. Well here it is the last entry. Marvin died yesterday. So I'm officially signing off. But this isn't sad. I have an amazing wife. A smart child. A phenomenal friend. I did it. I found my group. I won't be alone again. The world needs more honest things, so let me write a statement.

Mendel Weisenbachfeld has friends. I no longer need this book. My life is complete. My life is complete because of my loving wife. Trina Weisenbachfeld. The girl I have loved since I saw her in first grade.

Trina I love you. I will always love you. Everything will be alright.

A/N I hope this is okay ☺️
