A/N I found my old prompt list so the wheel is about to get rolling again.
^^The song makes the whole thing more effective.
Just a small TRIGGER WARNING, nothing graphic just a slight mention of an attempt which doesn't go ahead.
~~Some time in the 1800's~~
Marvin had lost count of how many days he'd been on the boat alone. It could have been week for all he knew. The memories of watching the other crew members around him get captured or slaughtered and seeing his own captain dragged away was something he'd never forget the sounds of. Marvin had been lucky, although some would claim he was a coward instead of lucky. He'd managed to hide in a small area he'd found a few days onto the trip. He could see them, but they couldn't see him. What ever luck had been surrounded him also seemed to convince the attacking to leave the boat floating in the sea for it to wash up somewhere over time.
As the night drew in, Marvin felt his eyelids begin to drop. He'd somehow managed to go a few days without sleep. It was either because he was too scared in case someone else attacked the boat or the fact that whenever he closed his eyes the screams would infest his mind. To try and keep himself awake, Marvin decided to lean against the side of the boat.
The sea was peaceful that night. It rocked the boat at a calm and steady pace and clearly show a reflection of the moon and the stars. The tropical winds gently blew across the ship and lifted up the bottom of Marvin's jacket ever so slightly. Marvin looked at the hat that was tied up the post next to him. It was a hat that had belonged to his captain, he'd found it hidden under a barrel in the captains room. It was one of the few things that wasn't taken and the hat meant a great deal to Marvin. He carefully untied the string and placed the hat on his head. He stood up straight a smiled.
"Only if they could see me now." Marvin said aloud, "Surely this would make them proud of their son."
"I'm sure they would be." A voice said from behind him. "They're son's a captain now."
Marvin whipped his head around. His captain was stood in front of him. Marvin gasped and slowly removed the hat from his head.
"Whizzer..."
"How's the sea treating you now Marvin? I remember when you first set foot on this boat, you threw up whenever a wave hit the boat." The young captain laughed.
Marvin stepped closer to Whizzer and reached out to touch his face, but his hand went straight through him.
"I'm not really here Marvin." Whizzer smiled sadly.
"Is this it? Am I finally going mad?" Marvin panicked.
"No Marvin, I thought you'd listened to at least one of the ghost stories I read to you."
"I usually fell asleep on your shoulder a few sentences in." Marvin admitted as he rubbed the bac of his neck, "You just seemed to have that effect on me."
"I'm so proud of you Marvin. You went through so much in one day, but here you are. Captain of my old ship." Whizzer smiled.
"A captain without a crew."
"But a captain none the less."
"Whizzer I miss you so much. I miss your laugh, your touch. Just everything. It hurt so much to see them take you away. I wanted to help..."
"I'm glad you didn't." Whizzer interjected.
"But you were too young. And here you are hitting me with wise words. it should be the other way around." Marvin sobbed. " I shouldn't have let you go."
